Ironman273
It's funny people in the thread are giving up on next gen because of a launch title. I mean, if history has shown us anything it's that the absolutely best looking and best playing games are released at launch and only get worse as the console gets older. spenser.d, George P and Thief000 3 Share

Anyways, about the cloud bit, honestly, it's a fighting game, how do you expect it to get a boost using the cloud? The cloud offloading is going to help more in bigger open world games with lots going on in them not a fighting game. As for the 720p vs 1080p bit, again, it's the start, the first batch of launch titles for any new system are not the best and are still up around the same level of the last gen performance wise. They'll only get better with more time as we all know. Showan 1 Share
vcfan
Precisely my point. Console performance is a fiction. compared to a powerful pc,sure,i dont think anyone will debate that, but this is a mass consumers device, that has to hit a certain price point. Jaybonaut
A bunch of posters are coming here just to give their defense for never intending to purchase a console in the first place. Come on, grow up.
Noir Angel
It's not a defence, a mere statement of fact. The old consoles can do 720p, seemingly the new consoles can only do 720p as well (when PCs even with mid range parts have been able to handle 1080p for years). Doesn't strike me as a massive improvement.
vcfan
one developer isn't using the cloud to enhance the game or offload other tasks to free more resources for graphics. conclusion: all the other devs who are offloading other tasks or using the cloud to increas playability are wrong and the cloud is useless for anything but data mining. it's like the fricken moon hoax thread. either way, if you want to discuss the cloud capabilities of the xbox one, I'm sure there's another thread you can bring that up instead of here. The next-gen mech shooter Titanfall would not be possible without Microsoft?s Xbox One cloud services, according to Respawn Entertainment engineer Jon Shiring. The cloud is tied into Microsoft?s controversial online policies for the new console, and it?s been the subject of confusion and ire from gamers. According to Shiring, Microsoft?s dedicated servers are the perfect solution to a long-standing problem. Console games with online multiplayer aspects typically use player-hosted servers because dedicated servers are expensive and tough to implement, but dedicated servers offer a superior experience. Microsoft?s dedicated cloud servers allow Respawn to implement more and better AI, physics, and environments, eliminate the ?host advantage? that plagues many online games, thwart some forms of cheating, boost matchmaking speeds, eliminate the need to pause the game when the host player quits, and improve visuals and audio by taking full advantage of the console hardware and leaving other tasks to the cloud processors. The cloud services aren?t limited to Xbox One games either, and Respawn uses them for the Windows PC and Xbox 360 versions of Titanfall as well. Respawn approached both Sony and Microsoft about this problem, and Microsoft was the one to implement a solution, Shiring writes. ?Microsoft realized that player-hosted servers are actually holding back online gaming and that this is something that they could help solve, and ran full-speed with this idea,? he writes. ?So they built this powerful system to let us create all sorts of tasks that they will run for us, and it can scale up and down automatically as players come and go.? ?We want to focus on making awesome games, not on becoming giant worldwide server hosting providers,? he continues. ?The more time I can spend on making our actual game better, the more our players benefit.? http://www.digitaltrends.com/gaming/titanfall-developers-spell-out-benefits-of-xbox-one-cloud/ the cloud means xbox one gets games like titanfall, while others dont. NeoWind
ZZZZZZZZZ Really? Really? GTA V can max out at 720p with splendid graphic texture and run at minimum @30fps which i doubt the developer haven't understand how to optimize 1080p@60fps for the next generation console. Given the console get a much better hardware optimize in theory it should run smoothly without the need of GPU such as 7970 and most of all developer deep optimize for console rather than PC. i don't want to play any game in the next generation than run at 720p because it's archaic regardless of how good the GPU. 1080p is the standard and 4k is just about to get mature in few more years. If they can't do it then give the gamer some option to change the GPU inside the console and swipe the PC GPU if they have one and those who prefer to run at native 1080p can enjoy it. If you get what i mean is the next generation console should have include thunder port to support external GPU and stop relying on the cloud for gaming because it's just not ready yet and cost extra $$ to use it.
George P Global Moderator Posted September 4, 2013 Global Moderator Share Posted September 4, 2013 This whole 4k gaming this is a dream, for now. It's not going to suddenly become the defacto gaming res, not by a long shot. For 4k to become the norm you'll need people, average people, to rush out a buy new 4k tvs. Something that they didn't bother to do for 3D, and look, 3D gaming hasn't gotten anywhere. The fact is that the KI devs wanted a smooth 60fps over just having a higher res, for a fighting game that's way more important. Does this mean anything for neg gen or the power of the systems? No, it just means one developer didn't go 1080p, oh the humanity! Isn't Forza 5 1080p@60fps? Aren't other games also going to hit that mark? So what's the issue here really? I'll tell you what, there is no issue, some just want to make this bigger than it is for some reason or another. I game on consoles and PC, why does this have to a either or thing? I also tip my hat to console developers, having to code better, optimize their games more and get as much out of fixed hardware as they can only serves to help the PC side as well. Any tricks learned coding on limiting hardware still applies to the PC unless they're lazy. There's no reason why a game can't look great on the PC without needing to force you to have the best most expensive hardware to even have a chance of playing it smoothly, that's just a joke, which is what Crysis 1 turned into in the end. Let's not also forget that hardware tweaks done on the consoles manage to find their way back to the PC, but that's a different story I suppose. JonnyLH
With Double Helix being a small company and their game being a launch title, I can confidently say that if the game does drop to 720p it will be due to strict time constraints set by MS for it being a launch title and their apparent preference for 60fps. One thing that confuses me around this is that all the hands-on of this game, including PAX have been said to be 1080p and running smooth as ######. From the Eurogamer hands-on (at E3!): The Xbox One hardware is visibly active, almost certainly pushing out 1080p at 60 frames per second. There is no tearing, and the only dips in response come from changing to each character's more effects-heavy ultra mode. Killer Instinct may not set a new technical benchmark, but the 1080p60 gameplay is fast, fluid and fun and there's some really nice effects work on display. Running flat out at 1080p60, Killer Instinct impressed us with its visual style and effects work, but colour us concerned about Microsoft's chosen free to play model. http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-hands-on-with-xbox-one So why the drop? I honestly smell something is not quite right about this.

If you saw it at PAX, and no one told you it was 720p and you thought it was 1080p would you even notice? People rant on about 1080p this and 1080p that yet I bet they can hardly tell the difference between the two resolutions. What people DO notice is 30fps vs 60fps, specially in a combo filled fighting game. Thief000 1 Share

That's like saying the general public can't tell between SD and 720p. I recently moved back home with my 1080p TV for an operation where my parents have a 720p TV and a HD service, they actually praised the "sharpness of the picture" on my 1080p TV while I was watching breaking bad on Netflix. I'd rather have lower graphics fidelity than lower resolution.

A lot of people in the general public have no idea though unless you show them the difference. Over the years i've seen family / friends with Xbox 360's connected to large 1080p 16:9 HDTV's using the SD composite cables, displaying the Xbox 360 in 480i 4:3 thinking it looks good... :pinch: Needless to say after showing them how to set the console up correctly they were even more impressed with it. JonnyLH
And this is what I mean. So from this conclusion, say for instance if the PS4 version of BF4 was 720p and the X1 was 1080p the general population would notice the difference and claim the X1 version was the better version. Consdering HDMI will always set to the native resolution and look the best it can.
Sebass
Maybe the culprit for reaching 1080p @ 60fps is probably the dated GPU which is something between and AMD HD6000/7000 As a PC gamer myself I think this is a non issue. Honestly if you want to get super high resolutions and good framerates get a PC this time around they are already more powerful than any next gen console. For convenience and a cheaper alternative get a console. I am thinking on getting one to play with friends and do some causal gaming on my living room. psionicinversion
4k gaming isnt ready yet, maybe 2 gens up from 8xxx series radeons, 4k TV's are at the ?3200-5000 mark atm and monitors will still be expensive then youve got to take note of ppl whove bought tv's and not ready to make another purchase etc. so 4k will be mainstream the next time they do a console in 8-10 years so its about right. To the person who said why cant you just plug in an external gfx card... mainly becuase its custom built soc that all works together, you chuck someat in like that and itll prolly become worse off

If its using MS' cloud platform for both pc, x1, and 360, then that points to the reason why its not on the ps4. Not to say it cant come to the ps4 later either using something offered by Sony or something else. Why is that you guys just want to fight?
