Diablo 3 for PS3 released today!

Recommended Posts

I didn't realize it was out so soon, I may have to go and pick it up.  Hopefully it does not suffer from the annoying always-online DRM that the PC version suffers from.  It was a great game when I played through it on the PC, but local coop looks amazing!!

Anyone else going to be picking this up?

Please let me know if this game plays well with a controller...

Yeah if you have a computer, I don't see a reason for getting this. If not, it's worth a look because I think the game is fun.

while as stated above it does not require an always online connection. I would not say that the PC version has "Suffered" from the choice to make the game online only. In fact i have never had any issue with the game at all since it has been released. During the beta while they were queueing up the servers it was a bit shaky but since release it has not had an issue at all.

I think the console version will be better as there is no auction house. They are not entirely the same game (PC vs console.)

i am looking forward to seeing how it plays out, and from what I understand they are going to backport the controller support to the PC version for those that would rather play that way.

It is just a silly, watered down version of the game. ARPG's are not meant to be played with a controller, but it does look like Blizzard did a decent job with the controls.

I hope you're wrong

The real problem with Diablo 3 was the RMAH. It's pretty damn obvious that the game's entire itemization and loot engine were tuned to make the RMAH more attractive and viable than it should have been. D3, along with every APRG, falls apart with terrible itemization.

The console versions are a surprisingly good port from what I hear, but an offline mode and no AH doesn't fix the underlying loot engine. "Loot 2.0" is coming to the game "soon". However, no one knows when, no one knows if it will actually fix anything, and no one knows if the console versions will get it.

If the PS4 version comes with the "Loot 2.0" patch AND it actually does fix the itemization, then I may play the game again. I have the game already for the PC, but I'd be willing to get another copy to be able to play on the couch in living room.

It's been very thoroughly discussed by the PC community.

I'm annoyed that they released the console ports without Loot 2.0, that doesn't really make sense to me... Again, they release D3 too early. (If they release it as $$ DLC, they should all be fired.)

However, I'm reading good things about the console version overall in terms of it's feel and playability. I have no plans on buying it though. I'm still upset about paying full price for the PC version, which I still consider to be in beta...

You reach a threshhold at level 60 where the same items that drop are either really good or really crap despite being the same item. There isn't/wasn't any progression for your character other than keep grinding away at the same crafting recipie or en-mass farm trash. Stats are farily static, no clear specialisation for higher quality items. A common item can be massively better than a legendary which is just ludicrous. The patch was supposed to make ledgedary items worthy of the quality level and offer better allocations of stats, more variety and more frequent drops.

Playing it with my two sons on the 360 on our TV. My only gripe is having to wait for them to decide what gear they want to equip/sell/buy as well as what spells/skills they want to employ. I guess it would look like crap if you split screen it, but oh well. Otherwise, it's a lot of fun.

I've enjoyed plenty of them on consoles. If the devs get the UI right, then its fine. I'd prefer a controller to play tbh.

I just want the controller support on my PC version, then I'll be fine. I'm not sure it'll be better, but I definitely want to give it a go. If it works out great I could always just put my PC onto my TV.

Different UI, plus they added things like the roll/dodge for the consoles.

It just wouldn't work.

So has anyone spent enough time with this version of the game to offer opinions? "This version" meaning the PS3 or 360 version. Does the loot that is dropping seem to be better than the PC version? How is the performance? (screen tearing, fps dips, etc)

This article here should answer your performance questions.

Can you play online with a pc user whilst being on the console version of the game?

(does it connect through battle.net?)

No, you cannot. The console versions don't connect to Battle.net at all.
