He wont run the xbox project, they already have people in place to do that.  He will just be running the larger hardware group.

I know this usually doesn't work out well with Mega Corporations...

But Microsoft needs a 2-Headed Monster, CEO approach.

One CEO has to be a visionary with a EYE for the future... Always forward thinking (J Allard anyone?  :D )

The other has to be a Suite (gotta have them) to keep things somewhat level headed...

But thats just me...

I don';t trust Elop at all...

I think the thread title is fairly misleading though.

Elop will not run the xbox division.  He will head up the devices division, but its not like he will be coming up with the xbox strategy.  The guys that are hands on with the xbox project now will be doing that and reporting in some fashion to Elop.

With a company as big as MS, these guys at the top are not the ones directly shaping the divisions underneath it, they are managers that are there to keep it going efficiently and smoothly.  Sure some are more hands on then others, but the size/reach of the position means they need someone below them that is 'running' each section.  So in this case, Elop manages the overall strategy, but its the guys below him that directly run the xbox side and come up with the strategies that someone like Elop would support.

You aren't going to see Elop making a keynote address at E3 lol.

Guys, being in charge of the devices division doesn't mean you run Xbox.  Xbox has it's own boss who then reports to Elop but that doesn't mean Elop will have hands on with everything Xbox.   We went over this when Julie was moved to the hardware division as well.   People have to give this a rest.

Why would he, he's not head of xbox, he didn't ruin Nokia, in general Elop has done a very good job at all the positions he's had at MS. when he was head hunted by Nokia, he was given a very tough job, and while it took time to slow the fall and turn it around, he did it. You have to remember he was given control of the titanic after it rammed the iceberg in the middle of nowhere with no drydock in sight and given the job to keep it afloat and make it fully working again.
