Xbox One now in full production with improved CPU performance

Recommended Posts

Xbox chief marketing officer Yusef Mehdi just spoke at the Citi Global Technology Conference and said Microsoft is now in full production for the Xbox One and producing in mass with plans still on for a November 2013 launch.

About one month after improving the GPU clock speed, Mehdi added that Microsoft just made another technical boost by upgrading the CPU performance to 1.75 GHZ from 1.6 GHZ.

That's interesting.  The other post regarding the technical pieces of the SoC seemed to point to a clock speed higher than 1.75 ghz, but that's still a decent bonus.  They must be seeing good yields on the hardware and have the thermal headroom thanks to the case design.

OMG a small CPU clock speed tweak! Microsoft you LIARS YOU SAID IT WOULD BE 1.6GHZ I WANT MY MONEY BACK it's ok calm down people. It's just a 9% difference and it's actually good for everyone. You can go complain about things worth complaining about now.

Let's just hope the higher clock doesn't lead to much higher temps and bring back the old RROD, if it's still called that.  Of course that was mostly just a shoddy solder job, but . . .

They already confirmed it has thermal throttling if necessary so that shouldn't be an issue.

I heard Xbox One can repair itself if one of the cores gets damaged.

With the slight bump up in the GPU & CPU, that should equal better overall performance (will help future games target a consistent 1080p/60fps) in games

I really wouldn't worry about RROD.  This thing has been designed like a 2013 Tank.  Huge heat sink with HUGE pipes, full SOC design, huge fan, huge box.  If it gets too hot it will actually down-clock itself and pull less electricity.

Does it have a slot to install a math coprocessor?

Now all that's left for them to do is give that ddr3 a small, not very significant overclock and they'll have covered all their bases on last second clock speed changes.

I like how even the smallest positive stories about the X1 or MS is met with the standard sarcasm and ridicule lol.

They can't help it, they already preordered the PS4 so it makes them feel better.

Personally I'd say under 5% would be insignificant, above that is pretty decent.

seriously? are you really that naive?

Oh, right. They planned years in advance to increase the clock speeds of everything at the last minute like they have.

microsoft fans..

When do you think clock speed tweaks happen exactly?  It's in the testing phase, which they just finished and are now in full production.  I mean some of you can be really silly about things.    They tested it and saw they could bump up the speed and get better performance, and this is a negative why?
