Picture preview in Windows

Recommended Posts

I connected my digital camera to my Windows 8 computer figuring that it would run a little faster as far as previewing/transferring pictures. Initially when I connected the camera, I saw small image previews. Once all the pictures loaded, the preview images went away. Now when I view the camera device in the Windows file manager, all I see is a Windows logo and a harddrive icon -- no file name and no picture.

As it is right now, I would have to open every file to figure out if it's one that I need.

Change the view size, so it has to generate new thumbnail images.

Hit F5 so it reloads and maybe has to generate new thumbnail images.

Go to Disk Cleanup, clear the icon cache, so it has to generate new thumbnail images.

Yeah, I know what you mean. How long have you let it sit? Sometimes on external devices it's very slow to create thumbnails. I do feel like sometimes it doesn't create thumbnails, but I've never been curious enough to dig any deeper so I can't help much. I'd also say to double check the view mode and make sure it definitely is on thumbnail and maybe change the size like previously mentioned so that it would trigger a regeneration of thumbnails.
