Mini-ITX Motherboard CPU combo advice

Recommended Posts

So no love in the HTPC forum.

What I need is a good mini-itx motherboard/CPU combo to run my

XBMC server. It needs to have (at least) 6 SATA connections. I don't

care if they are 3/6 since it won't make any difference when serving

media. But the six is important because it will have 6 WD Red drives

in it.

Some videos will be 3D, and all are 1080p, so the processor needs to

be able to handle that. Oh, and I would prefer it have Wireless capability

integrated. Thanks!

This is the case I went with:  http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811112339

You won't get 6 SATA ports with Mini-ITX. The least you could do is get a PCI-X SATA card.

Oop, nevermind, this one has 6 SATA ports: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157374

Yep... $170.

Thus, the reason I came to ask for other options.  :)

The system is ONLY powering my media center, so I wasn't sure if their were

any good all-in-one options like ION systems and the like. The multiple SATA

connectors are the limiting factor here.

Why didn't you post that in the first place?

Just look on newegg, use the choices on the left, there is your answer.

1. Because that's the Newegg price, and someone may know a cheaper

option, other places to get stuff.

2. That's still just one Motherboard. I don't like to limit suggestion options

by giving options. I'd rather hear what everyone else thinks/suggestions

based solely on my needs.

Just like you said, where are you buying this? I thought RaidMax was a non-reputable brand. If you wanna go cheap, get a Antec Earthwatts.

I'm looking at Newegg since they seems to be the cheapest.

As for Raidmax, I've never had a problem with them.

Will this combo do what I want? (Minus the Sata, of course. The one's with 6 Sata ports are expensive.)

It doesn't have wifi onboard, Fractal.

You could buy one of those Little USB WiFi adapters or buy their Z87I-Deluxe.

its a couple years old, but there are a few on Ebay still http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813500027

I used one of these in a NES PC build last year, handled XBMC, 1080p video, emulation up to PSX/N64 (PS2 worked but was choppy with a lot of games), has built in wifi, only 4 SATA slots, but its under $100 now.
