Etymotic ER4pt tri-flange replacement tip

Recommended Posts

So i've just busted my second pair of 3 flange tips (large) that came in box with my pair of Etymotic ER4PT's.  I've googled and found they sell replacement on amazon and in their own webpage:

http://www.amazon.com/Etymotic-Research-ER38-18-3-Flange-Replacement/dp/B006WT2AD8/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1378757421&sr=8-1&keywords=er4+replacement+tip

However, everyone seems to complain that they're smaller than the ones shipped OEM. So i've grown frightened of buying, specially at amazon, because i'll have 10 pairs that fit smaller than  they should, i've contacted several buyers on amazon that apparently own ER4 but haven't got a reply.

So, my question is, has any ER4 user bought these tips and are they true to size or are they actually smaller (from a lot of er-6's users)

If not, What would be you head-fiers/neowinians recommendation, please note, I use the 3 flange tips for maximum isolotion and therefor, lower volume, so foam tips are out of the equation, as I've found for me, they don't isolate as much as the 3 flange (large) tips.

this is probably a long shot, but i guess posting is the only way to find out!

I would think they would fit.

They are the same model.

Etymotic is distributing them.

They are the same model for mc2, mc3 (these are clear though), hf2, and hf3 as well.

It's not about the fit, I don't doubt that, it's about them being the same ear size as the ones that came from OEM, as quoted from the amazon link:

tymotic is not with their sizing nor product associations.

I own a pair of MC5 earphones and the original eartips were amazing.

It was obviously a time to replace my original eartips so I have been looking for replacements, and purchased the above.

1. The eartips doesn't even fit your earplug properly. The hole is much smaller than the one that the default one and you have to be forceful to even put the eartips into the earplug.

2. The eartips themselves are much much much smaller than the default one. It does not create a seal, and it does not feel comfortable.

It's really unfortunate - even on their official site [...] the 38-18 seems to be for the largest sized 3-flange eartip.

I literally used this product for less than a minute, and threw away the entire package.

Now my old dirty eartip is back in with no possible alternative. What a waste of money.

Well, if it is any comfort, I am a tester for Etymotic:

They sent me a pair of hf2s along with additional replacement tips.  The original flanged tips and replacement they sent were identical.  I know they aren't the same buds, but I would think they have better QA than to make an error like that.

And I could be wrong and they are different.  It just seems unlikely.

Well, did the replacement tips come marked as 38-18 ?

To be honest, everyone complaining about the size are people with MC5 or ER6i

These, :p

I was surprised to find a vendor in china that still stocked parts for them as they're like 20 or 25 years old now (I bought them when I was like 14 or 15)

Well, IMO, yes, and believe it or not, they still are able to take the abuse I used to give them as a teenager, almost no distortion at maxxed volume, and still no crackling so the drivers are still in great condition :)

I would but I prefer on the ear, closed cup sets, my next conquest were going to be the B&W P5's until I saw the price, so I figured, try the C5's, but when I was on ebay I found a vendor that had replacement parts for my aiwas, so I actually saved a ton of money, buy not buying the Bowers.

(And that says something about me as my living room speakers are Series 3, DM604's)

If you do decide to go closed cup on the ear, Chambers by RZA are quite good for their price

I forget the model number, but they take 2 AA batteries, and depending on the cable plugged in, (cable's interchangeable) they're headphones, or a headset for your phone
