Just a FYI for all you Neowinians........ I encountered this problem tonight. After downloading and applying today's Windows Updates, the folder view in Outlook 2013 shows a blue column with the folders obscured. Had to uninstall the update KB2817630 to correct the problem. :argh:

One of the many updates served today to users by Microsoft through Windows Update is causing problems for users running Office 2013.

The update, labeled "Update for Microsoft Office 2013 (KB2817630) 32-bit Edition" or "Update for Microsoft Office 2013 (KB2817630) 64-bit Edition", contains bug fixes, and stability and performance improvements. After applying it, many users are reporting on TechNet that the Outlook folder pane is left empty. Many are also reporting that uninstalling the KB2817630 update fixes the problem.

The update is not one of the security updates released today, nor does there seem to be a hint of it in the non-security updates announced for today.

Happened to me also. I've been Google'ing for a fix or even mention of it, and came across this post. Now at least I know it's not just me.

Right on, uninstalling that update fixed the problem.

I experienced this issue today with a customers PC. Microsoft does have a hot fix available that seemed to fix the issue on that machine at least.

Reports that a hotfix is available for this problem appear not to be accurate. The hotfix, described here, was released several weeks ago and addresses different problems.

A Technet article dealing with the problem is posted HERE!
