Factory reset

Recommended Posts

I initiated a factory reset on my 920 yesterday, but the phone lost power halfway through after a thunderstorm knocked out our power. Once the power came back on, I plugged the phone back it, but it has been stuck on the spinning gears screen all night.

Is the phone bricked? :(

Take a battery out and wait for a few minutes then put it back in.. and see if you are able to boot up to home screen or recovery mode.

Edit: looks like your phone does not have removable back cover... so you might have to go to the store for repair or replacement.

I have the same issue when I did my factory reset, it seems to be a issue with some 920 where they get stuck. try the below to see if you can fix it but otherwsie it may need to get sent for repair.

Normally, it takes only 30 minutes at most to reset it. In the event that it would take longer, like what happened here, you can press and hold both on the volume down button and power key for about 10 seconds.

The phone should then reboot. If the phone would still be stuck to spinning gears, here is a hardware reset that you need to press. Input these keys on the following sequence, press them one key at a time:

Volume up

Volume down

Power key

Volume down

Make sure that you try this while the phone is charged.

No need to go to Care center for this.
If none of the normal methods don't work, you need to re-flash your phone, though you got to loose the data.

if you are ok with it, I can help you out.

I had this happen when I reset my 928, and I didn't even have a thunderstorm interfering.  Get it to power down by unplugging it from the charger if it's plugged in, letting the gears do their thing till you think it has less than 10% power left (if it's been going all night it's probably nigh dead already) and reset it with power button + vol down.  When it's dead enough it should inform you you need to charge it by displaying the empty battery icon with a red bar at the bottom and shut down.  If it has enough power to boot it'll just go back to the gears.  Once you've accomplished shutting it off, pull the sim card out, plug it into the charger, and when it has enough power it should boot on and go back to the reset gears, but it should take less than 20 min to complete instead of being stuck there indefinitely.  Once it's done with the reset shut it down, put the sim back in and reboot again.

how does your phone lose power because of a thunderstorm? it runs on battery power during resets

It was having battery issues where it couldn't hold a charge, once the power went out, so did the phone.

Either way, none of the methods worked, I ended up sending the phone back to AT&T unsure if the reset worked or not.

Pulling the sim card out didn't work?
