I've recently cut the cord with cable, but because I still have internet service, I get some cable channels over ClearQAM, as well as digital local channels in HD. I am looking for a tuner that could pick up these channels to my laptop (T61, C2D T8100, 3gb RAM, Intel Integrated Graphics GMA965)
I know I can play back 1080p video just fine, but I'm wondering if I'd be able to record SD and HD video, kind of like a DVR, without any performance issues?
My fiancé likes to record some shows that are available on the channels we get, and it would be much easier for her to be able to record them directly with a DVR-like interface than have to find other means of acquiring them. So I am thinking of using either Windows Media Center or XBMC to do this.
Secondly, if I can record video with this setup, what is a good, extrenal USB tuner that would supported ATSC/ClearQAM channels? The laptop only has USB2.0, if that makes a difference.
