NO PS4 GAMEPLAY on YouTube?!?

Recommended Posts

Well that's kind of lame. Though, you can still share directly to Facebook, Twitch, and Twitter; so there's that. But the Youtube restriction is strange. Hopefully Sony listens to the feedback and allows that before launch or shortly afterwards.

that's a deal breaker for me

I mean, it's a bummer for sure. But you're saying you will deliberately not get a PS4 because of one little restriction? (one that you can get around) wow.  :|

This issue is tied in with the HDCP issue that carries over from the PS3.

That issue is a bigger deal for those that want to capture gameplay that is longer than the limit imposed by Sony with their recording solution. Its the same for the X1, but since there is no HDCP enabled for games, you can use other methods to get around the time limit restriction. HDCP is enabled on the PS4 for games as it was with the PS3, so you have fewer options around it.

As for uploading directly to Youtube, its clear that we need another confirmation on Sony regarding this.  Mark Cerny clearly said Youtube was supported, but he might have misspoke.  Now that other 'sources' are claiming that is in fact not true, we will need Sony to clear that up.

Honestly, I think both consoles will support using Youtube when its all said and done.  Maybe its not day one, but it will be there.

This does not bother me one bit as I don't plan on even uploading any video of my gaming. However you can bet on it that if enough gamers complain Sony will add Youtube uploading in the future I would think! Unless of course maybe it's not technically possible on the PS4 hardware?

that seems a bit dramatic.  do you post gameplay videos on youtube now?  are you that great of a gamer that millions of people would subscribe to your channel and you'd become rich off of ads placed on your videos!@!!#!@/?!

edit - nm, saw your censorship response, still.. bit dramatic

Its not true, already debunked on GAF.

I mean...

So how about that Share button? Well, "Share" on the PS4 controller uses the system's hardware encoder, which is always recording the last several minutes of gameplay without using any additional system resources  An example of a Share menu shows off the fact that you can upload a video to YouTube or Facebook easily -- background uploads can take place after you add a comment.

Also for capturing

We talked to Sony and Microsoft people at the recent E3 show, as per now it looks like Xbox One and PS4 will both work with HD PVR2. However, as we just saw for Xbox One, specs could change to what we know right now. Neither Xbox One nor PS4 are released today, so we can't test and confirm yet.

So wait, does that mean that the ps4 does not enforce HDCP for games over hdmi output? That would be new since the PS3 did that.

I wasn't aware that the Hauppauge could get around the HDCP flag.

So the share button will in fact allow users to upload directly to youtube.  Has it been said if it supports streaming to youtube or just upload?

Either way, its nice to see any questions cleared up.

Just another made up rumour from the xbox fanboys. You know Sony already supports youtube on PS3 right? Just not enough devs have taken advantage of it. By the way, on PS4 devs have to choice to disable the feature at certain times of the game.

Yup, Pixel junk Eden comes to mind. Uploads directly to YouTube.

Um it wasn't a made up rumor by fanboys, it was people in the so called 'gaming media' that brought it up. I hope the Machinima guys post an update.  Those guys have a track record for posting incomplete or incorrect info when it comes to these next gen consoles.

Anyway, does anyone know if the rumor about HDCP being enforced for games on the PS4 is true?

Well I, for one am not worried by this, whatever the outcome, I had no intention of uploading gameplay videos to youtube whether the console had the ability or not.

I'm not that good of a gamer :p

Yoshida hasn't denied it yet so I guess true so far but Sony can do a 180 :p

Isn't it surprising that the champion of consumer rights, the company that puts gamers first etc. etc'. crap has implemented this draconian* DRM in PS3/4?

*the term used to describe HDCP in Windows Vista.

To me, that looks like a retraction of the feature. No big deal to me at all but I can see why people would be the least bit disappointed.

Yeah that's not a ringing endorsement.

Its possible Sony simply doesn't have the OS software finished, so they are not confirming the exact features until they know it all works as expected.

Or it could be a situation like MS and the X1 where they ran into some delay that resulted in a feature they want to offer is taking longer to finish.

There is no other reason I can think of for him not to simply give a yes or no confirmation right now.
