Okay here's the story. Ill try make this short.
Went to pick up wife. My 2008 Mazda Tribute was turning off by itself, gears were not catching, I turned right for example and it went straight instead. The car would turn off but you could only go very slow at higher speeds the engine would turn off. It was the transmission.
Luckily it was right by a general automotive repair shop. They told me they could not fix it there and took it to a "heavy duty transmission shop". Weird that they did not mention the name right away. They told me the name after I told them I had to get stuff from my vehicle. When I got there I talked to the owner and asked how much they would have charged me to rebuild my transmission instead of going through the general automotive repair shop. The owner seemed liked he didn't want to answer that question and finally told me it would "only be a couple of hundred bucks difference".
So finally five days later I have my car back. The transmission shop told me they had to order some parts for my vehicle. I go back to the general automotive shop and expecting to see what was done to my vehicle in full detail. I just get two lines:
1. Diagnostic fee
2. Reman transmission
The total payment was $2,906. The original price was $2,997 but the manager offered a discount. I got a 2 year or 36,000 mile warranty at this price.
I went back to the transmission shop two months ago requesting a full detail itemized written statement on what was done to my vehicle. One of the managers told me they write was done to the vehicle on work orders. But the work orders get so bad they are thrown away after the mechanics are done with the job. He told me they don't have full records on what was done to my vehicle. Just what's on my invoice.
By the way the rebuilt transmission service was done on January 10, 2013.
So what should I do? I don't want to give up on this.
