Are All Men Pedophiles?

Recommended Posts

Very polarising title for what appears to be a balanced piece of documentary work.  There has definitely been a shift in society and in the long run to everyones detriment I think, I know in Australia there a distinct decline, near deficit of male teachers.  Might seem like a minor thing but I suspect it will have ramifications.  Its also interesting some of the double standards that pop up regularly these days, eg the high 5's for the male student who sleeps with the hot female teacher but a lynching for the male teacher who sleeps with the hot female student etc.

A lot of men avoid careers in childcare, education or anything else where you would deal with kids regularly because it isn't seen as a career a man should do, (it's womens' work) and there is also a suspicion of any man who would want to work with children. It's unfair but it is the reality.

Plus they worry the hell out of us.

I couldn't find a place to watch the movie, but I found a video on youtube which is an interview with the director of the movie and it raised some very interesting thoughts.

In it, I have learned that the average age that a girl is fully sexually mature is 16....the reason 18 is so often talked about is because we essentially live in a mans world, and the average age of sexual maturity for a man is 18.

Basically that means once a girl reaches the age of 16, her body will generally not change in any significant way aside from weight gain/loss and other things that are controllable, things that have little or nothing to do with puberty.

Beyond that, it said most men in the survey they did, find that without knowing the age of a female in a photo, they found most men find 16 year olds to be the most attractive on average.

To anyone who has looked at the cover of the movie and the poster for it, the girl on both is 14 years old.

Last thing, the average age of models throughout the world is 16, and models are generally dressed and accessorized to look as attractive as possible.

He also brings up a good point that realistically most men are not pedophiles, because the term pedophile refers to someone who is attracted to children (that is, a person who has not reached puberty), whereas someone attracted to a 16 year old does not fall into the definition of pedophile, but legally they use the term rather loosely (pretty much for anyone attracted to a person under the age of consent). So legally, most men are pedophiles, but by definition most men are not.

Definitely raised some interesting points to consider, and by pedophile in the name of the documentary, it refers to anything that falls into the legal usage (such as anyone under the age of consent), not the actual definition. What the title is asking is if all men are attracted to young women who have completed puberty, not whether or not all men are attracted to children.

Just want to address the bolded text, as that's definitely not true. A girl at 16 almost always looks much different than she does at 25. It is not as "controllable", as there are still metabolic shifts and hormonal things going on. This misinformation is why a mature, healthy older woman can be called "fat" when she isn't--she just isn't a young teen anymore. In some ways I wish I looked the way I did at 16, but overall I like the way I look and feel. My body has changed a lot, though, despite eating right, exercising, and generally taking care of myself. So please don't think this way.

I enjoy interacting with kids and always have. I find it very easy to entertain them. My own son is 3 and I've never had any inclination to do anything sexual to him nor the other kids I've spent my life around. I have a natural instinct to protect them and care for them. But it's so fun to watch them learn and grow. They can be extremely frustrating at times, especially your own because you can't send them home when you're tired of them. But it's totally worth it. I enjoy every chance I get to spend with my son, my nieces and nephews, as well as my cousins' kids. I spent most of my teenage years babysitting these kids. Nobody has ever had any issue. On the flip side, I spent a lot of my youth always wanting to be a part of the adult conversations. I still thoroughly enjoy talking with people older. One of my friends from work who carpools with me is more than twice my age and we have some of the best conversations. I love the experience he brings. This whole "if he likes kids he's a pedophile" view is just wrong.

Fair enough, I don't know enough about female physiology to say different than the video I watched said. It could also be I didn't portray the video correctly with how I stated what I said. I don't think it's so much that the body won't change much beyond 16, it's more that the body is as physically mature at 16 as it is in an older woman. But again, I really don't know enough about the issue to say differently, it's all based on what the video said and what you have said.

they seem to be confusing ephebophilia and pedophilia

I think that's the major issue that the documentary covers, the term pedophile is used so often by society that it is generally thought to refer to any person attracted to someone under the age of sexual maturity.....the actual definition of pedophilia (going off memory) is a person who is sexually attracted to a child who has not yet reached puberty. Therefore a person of legal age being attracted to a 16-year old (as an example) is not pedophilia, despite the crime they would be charged with if they were arrested for attempting to have a relationship with them.

Puberty does end at around 15-17 for girls. The body shape will keep changing somewhat, but doesn't it keep changing for all our lives?

most pedophilia laws aren't about protecting "children". It's about protecting parents feelings about being able to protect their offspring until they've moved out.

I thought this was a genuine question when I saw the thread title and I was going to go off on one.

Haven't seen it. Haven't heard of it until now.

Glad I got one person! It was suppose to seem like that to get your attention. :)

I don't think I'll ever not be attracted to 16 year old girls. I don't want a relationship with them as they're stupid and impressionable but a lot of them are still quite attractive to pretty much any Man. There are some cases were Men are actually repulsed by girls at that age, but I think that's pretty much the minority.

It's a combination of primitive instincts and hormonal urges that make it practically impossible to not be attracted to the member of the opposite sex at the age of fertility. As Humans we've grown to an evolutionary point to be able to control these temptations, but we know the underlying principles are still there. Denying that is usually just a weak attempt at trying to prove to your peers that you're not a 'pedophile', which is sad, because you're (probably) not; you're just a slave to your own chemical processes.

Having said all this though, actual pedophiles are absolutely disgusting. It's not necessarily the act of doing it (although that is also disgusting), it's the life that Girl (or sometimes, Boy) now has to live. It never goes away. You've basically murdered who they were to become, but in a way were they are still alive but permanently tortured. It's about the worst thing you could ever do.

To some degree, yes. Personally, I didn't start puberty until 13 or 14 so it definitely wasn't over by that age range, but I guess I was a bit of a late bloomer? I do know brain development continues into the early 20's for both males and females--we may be sexually capable of reproduction but we aren't our best at decision-making as a teenager. Hormones are still shifting, things are settling down and regulating for years after. IIRC, my breasts and hips didn't reach their final form (lol) until I was about 20-21.
