request Make "Report problem with article" more obvious

I remember it used to be a button under the article. I don't know when it was moved to a sub-menu under the author's name.

 

Personally, I think it's a bit unintuitive to put it there. I wanted to report an issue with articles; I have no issue with the authors (I'm sure they're all nice people, even if they make the occasional mistake! :))

 

If an issue is caught/reported quick enough, we'd see more relevant comments, and less of them of just people pointing out the obvious  (guilty of doing so myself just today, since I couldn't find the report link...)

As one who's inner grammar Nazi tends to rear its ugly head once in a while I'll second that. (Which is odd as my own grammar is pretty bad at times... I read gooder than I write.) I've occasionally pointed out typos and such to the authors, it is very unintuitive. The rest of the dropdown's fine as it's all about the author, but with everything else on the site the report button is clearly visible and not buried, why not articles too.

If you know where it is why should we move it? It doesn't look good to have a button asking for problems with the article because it suggests that it happens often. Anyway people do seem to have no issues providing reports already :)

I know now, after some effort of looking in improbable places. I happen to know that we used to have that feature, so I went looking for it.

 

New users to the site would probably not even try to find it at all (not knowing the existence of the feature), and end up cluttering the comments with issues, instead of actually discussing the article.

 

I understand your point of view for wanting to hide it, but maybe hide it under a heading that makes more sense?

If you really strive to make "unprofessional journalism look better", maybe help the community help you to make it better :)

I must admit that I keep forgetting where it has been moved to. Takes me a few minutes to remember after throwing my cursor around the page aimlessly. :laugh:

We know it's there, the problem is a lot of people don't. I found it because I knew it existed and want looking for it. A lot of people just point it out in the comments, if the button was more noticeable I think it'd cut down on them.

Exactly. In the forums, the report post link is on the post itself.

 

So to make things more consistent, either:

• Bury the "report post" link under the poster's username (please don't :p I'm just making a point on how ridiculous it is), or
• Put the "report article" link on the article.
