Cloud App for Photo's

Recommended Posts

So I was in the Apple Store, my wife wants an iPhone 5S and telling them how she wants like a 32GB or 64GB because she takes so many photo's, she has to transfer them to the computer all the time. I told her that I use Dropbox and the 2 Apple people stated they use to, but one now uses SugarSync and another uses Copy. One reason one of them switched from Dropbox was because he is switching from Google products due to NSA. Another switched because Copy gives 15GB free, with referral deals.

What are you using? I'd like to be able to delete my photo's, knowing they are still somewhere accessible.

Try the new Flickr, 1TB for all with unlimited uploads. Perfect for photos and there is an iPhone App.

Thank you, I will check it out. Is it just for images? I think Copy allows files as well.

Flickr also allows for the uploading of videos, not files though.

You could also use iCloud as a viable system, which automatically uploads your photos to Photo Stream. This will automatically sync to other devices, including Windows PCs which have the iCloud Control Panel installed. iCloud is included with your iTunes account, and is set up as you set up the phone. So there is no additional setup required.

Trouble with using iCloud, as my Mother has found out, you only get 5 GB. If, like her you have a 16GB iPad full of photos, there isn't enough space on iCloud.

I never really understood that. Apple should give you an iCloud account that reflects the capacity of your device. It's not as if they don't have the money for a few hard drives.

Yeah but this is Apple at the end of the day. With a service such as Flickr, yes you're uploading them and it's publically viewable unless you set it otherwise.

If you want them to be more private, as more of an "online hard-drive," Skydrive or Dropbox are your best bets.

I've use iCloud Photostream but wow does it eat up a lot of space.  I'm looking for an alternative as well and currently trying Google+ out for storing photos in the cloud.  Thinking about switching to Flickr though.

Do any of these service allow direct linking to images at all?  I would love to use a service that would give me a direct link to an image file so that I could use that image anywhere (including here).

The new Flickr app for iOS 7 does background photo syncing.  Perfect.  I'll probably just use that from now on.  Photostream just isn't doing it for me and the amount of space it wastes is counter to the "storing it in to cloud" goals....
