24'' vs. 27'' - goods and bads? Which one ?

Hy. I plan to change my actual Samsung 2232BW (1680x1050 & Pixel Pitch 0.282 mm) with an IPS panel and found interesting these 2 models from Dell :

1. Dell 2740L : Pixel Pitch 0.311 mm (IPS)

2. Dell 2440L : Pixel Pitch 0.277 mm (VA)

 

These two have the same resolution (1920x1080 @ 60hz) but the pixel pitch is pretty large on 27'' model..will this affect quality image so much? It's pixel pitch is even larger than my actual samsung monitor so I'm a bit scared of consequences..thanks a lot for any suggestion!

I definitely would not go for 1080p on a 27".. Point of having a 27" for me is greater desktop work area, 1080p on a 27 wouldn't do that

What are you mainly  going to use it for? gaming, movies, design, browsing? If you're going to spend a lot of time reading or making intense design work then go for the higher pitch, if both are 1080P size doesn't matter. If you are going to mainly watch movies and play games go for a bigger screen, the pitch is less noticeable for afar.

I'm a graphic designer (Photoshop & Illustrator) and I also use for work Autodesk AutoCAD/Inventor + Autodesk 3Ds Max.. so the work area is pretty much important! 27'' models with higher res. are much more expensive and I can't afford them..

I personally suggest for going 24 inch because 1080p on 27 inch does not offer what on 24 inch it offer.

 

Whats your budget, and is there any brand or monitor you want as suggestion from us?

My competitor in town has a 27 inch Monitor as his main monitor in his shop that he runs at 1024 by 768 .... maybe he's blind?

 

It was funny when I went there I said Woah nice 27 inch monitor? What's the native resolution? He said "Let me look" .. now to be fair had the resolution been 2560 x 1440, I would of probably had to look also because I rarely see monitors with that resolution and can never remember that number. But this monitor was 1920 by 1200...

24 is for 1080, 27 is for 2560 X 1440 (I think it was). A 27" at 1920X1080 just makes things larger, doesn't five more space. The only reason ihmo to have a 27" is to have the higher resolution. In fact I stepped down to 24" so I could have a touch screen for Windows 8.1.

For $400 your getting a 27" 1440p monitor, that will most likely run at 120hz, definately at least say 90hz.

 

No brainer. You cannot get a better monitor for under 1g. Same samsung panel used in the top end Apple dispays etc.

I got mine last week, got from Korea to NZ in 2 days. Best purchase ever.

it's cheap because it's a class B or C panel, rejects from Dell, Apple, etc. Doesn't necessarily mean it's bad (they only take the very best) but it is kind of a toss up if the particular one you get will be good or not.

There a reports of the casing not being the highest quality but that's about it.  

I don't know where you are getting they are class B or C panels? Care to share your source? Apparently they are A- panels (stated here: http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/2023067)

You can pay $30-40 more for a 0 dead pixel guarantee model. I cant remember how many counts as zero but I believe it is under 20 pixels. Not that you can really spot a dead pixel on such a high PPI monitor without green screening. 

 

If you go with green sum as the seller in the link in this post then you know they will replace it or refund you if it is faulty. So the only downside would be having to ship it back to Korea. Well worth the risk IMO.

Be nice to some people who can't see/read well..  that they can't see small text on high res...   I was called to come in help my dad to increase font size when he got a new computer...

i just assumed that because that tends to be the case with the cheap korean brands, A- is not bad. you definitely can notice a dead pixel on these displays though depending on where it is.

I find 1080p on 27" to be not that bad. Simply having a larger screen makes things easier to see and enhances immersion in games and movies, even without going for a higher resolution. Even very large HDTVs are only 1080p after all...

 

I use a 120hz 1080p 27" monitor and I would never trade the better temporal resolution for better spatial resolution. Even just moving windows around, scrolling, etc, feels much more natural and pleasing.

Been needing a screen replacement and managed to get one of these, was originally looking at the one Monoprice has. It is damn nice and zero defects or stuck pixels

If they are the same resolution, I would not waste my money on the 27". The only reason to get a 27" would be to have 2560 X 1440 resolution.
