Can not edit MP3 ID3v2 tags since upgrading to Windows 8.1

I get: "Cannot save metadata: Error opening file."

 

I also can not edit them in Explorer (Properties > Details, all fields are uneditable).

 

Non of the files are read-only. Non of the files are corrupt.

 

Is this Microsoft "protecting" me again? -_-

Have you made sure they're not Read Only and checked the permissions? Often when I reinstall Windows I get issues with NTFS file permissions.

They're definitely not read only.

 

No idea about permissions.

 

I have no issues with Windows 7. Windows 8 caused a few issues (couldn't do as much with the register as I used to be able to) but Windows 8.1 seems to be throwing "permission" bs everywhere. It's winding me up.

If it's permissions then you should try the Take Ownership script. That's helped me out on many occasions.

Unfortunately, this did not work :(

 

I just know I'll get someone reply here soon saying I've messed up permissions or the files are corrupt or something. It's daft.

 

I could do what I wanted with my own files in XP/Vista :/

 

Just seems with every new version of Windows, I'm getting more restricted with my own files. First it was UAC in Vista (which, after disabling, was actually fine, I had full control of my system) but since 8 and 8.1, even turning off UAC isn't helping.

Are you able to test the files on another version of Windows? I'm using Windows 8.1 and I'm able to edit the fields, so it looks like a specific issue.

I dual-booted into Windows 7 and can edit them fine.

This is a clean install of 8.1 and all I've done is turn off UAC.

I'm using Windows 8.1 with UAC disabled and can edit fields in the Details tab just fine, so that shouldn't be the issue. Would you be willing to email me one of the affected files?

I did a test. I got an MP3 file, put it in the Music folder and I could use the Properties view to edit the ID3 tag info.

Added it (and played it) in Windows Media Player and now I can't edit it.

 

edit: My mistake, I couldn't edit it when viewing the file from a Music Library view. Opening the Properties dialog from the actual real folder (Right click -> Open File Location) allows me to edit it again.

is copying the .mp3 to FAT32 formatted USB flash-drive then edit the .mp3 tag there, also doesn't works?
