Xbone marketing at its finest!

These can't be genuine, surely? They're the sort of thing Sony fans would put out to discredit Microsoft. If they're genuine then they're shockingly bad.

It's not the name that's the problem, it's trolls deliberately spelling the number out, so that it says "bone". Did people call the Xbox 360 the "XThreeSixty"? No, it was just the "360". There are plenty of shorter alternatives than "Xbone" so shortening it down isn't the excuse. There's X1, XOne for examples.

X1 = Xbox 1 (the original)

Xbone = XBox One

The official name of the console is "XBox One", with the "one" spelled out. The official name of the 360 is "XBox 360", not "XBox Three Sixty" which is why no one short-hands it by spelling out the numbers.

Also, Microsoft bought the domain name "xbone.com" so it's now an official abbreviation for the console, whether the "team" likes it or not.

On topic, both slogans are ridiculous in my opinion. The "real" one doesn't make any sense, and the "beta" one implies that the console is still in development and will go into beta in the future. i.e. those who buy it will have to deal with bugs and other beta-related issues. It just doesn't imply anything good to me. And, yes I know that's not the case, but this is an ad targeted at the general public.

Was the console called Xbox Three Sixty? No. It's Xbox 360 right there on the box.

Is the new one called Xbox 1? No. It's Xbox One right there on the box.

MS came up with the stupid name, now they can deal with people using an abbreviation that hurts their poor wittle feewings.

It was the Xbox 360, did people call it the Xb360 or anything similar? No they didn't. I cannot take anyones opinion seriously, or as unbiased when they're already resorting to immature name calling of an inanimate object, I take it at face value that they're automatically a fanboy and have nothing of value to say about it. Their opinion is automatically ignored by me and several people I know.

If I were to mention something about the PS4 and I came in calling it the POS4? would you value anything I had to say after I've already resorted to petty name-calling?

Well, there clearly aren't any working at Microsoft.  :laugh:

Indeed. It's like when people use the abbreviation M$ I immediately discount anything they have to say. The abbreviation is either X1 (in line with the PS4) or XOne (a bit long winded) - XBone is designed simply to insult. As for the argument about the naming of the original Xbox, nobody refers to it anymore so it isn't an issue.

X1 and PS4. Simple.

Tell me about it. I hadn't realised there were so many rich, many successful marketing experts here.

Because these adverts are targeted specifically at techies, it to far ahead to beta regretted at the general public. Bt you knew this.

Yeah because "techies" as you call them need a billboard to know about something that's been all over the internet/blogs and gaming sites for months. Money well spent advertising to a group of people who already know everything about the Xbox One.

You don't need to be an expert to realise MS failed really hard at marketing in the last 5 years or so.

Most people here called it the 360. I think most people will call the XBox One simply the One. Still not really better than Xbone imo.

Their Windows 7 ad campaign was great. Since then MS has been going downhill fast.

There's no harm in a bit of speculation and opinion. ;) And it's fine if you think that they're good adverts, but for myself I stand by my first post. They seem non-sensical as far as adverts that attempt to entice new customers, but for those that are going to buy an Xbox anyway it's a bit of hype for them before the launch day.

Oh yeah you are right. Windows 7 marketing was great. But Zune, WP, Windows 8 and Surface marketing all have been lackluster at best. And so far they did not do a really good job with the One as they are just coming out from damage control mode.

But that doesn't even work.  There is no O between Play and Station.   Now.. if it were called the Play-Online-Station I could see POS4.  But unlike the XBoxOne it doesn't work.

I'm not fan boy but those seem like some pretty poor slogans for your ads.  I would have stuck with bland but simple slogans reminding people of the features eg, 'centre of your home entertainment'

IF you're going to call it Xbone it's XBOne.

And again, this is marketing aimed at a different target group than the later mass marketing. and even if techies may know of the Xbox One, that doesn't mean you don't market it to them, that would be pretty damn dumb.

Everyone knows about the different political parties that exist, the parties still campaign. everyone knows what the parties stand for, they still campaign.

I don't understand why you're getting so bent out of shape about the console's nickname. It seems like you're taking it personally which is kind of disturbing. Also, labeling anyone who uses the phrase "xbone" as a fanboy with no valid opinions is completely ignorant.

"POS4" doesn't even make sense. There is no "O" anywhere in Playstation. So not only does it not make sense, but it's not even an analogous comparison to Xbone.

I'm not taking it personally, I'm just curious why so many feel the need to be that immature,

And the O in Xbox One is also capitalizes, s it should be XBOne or XbOne.

Or just XO, X1, One or any other shorter more sensible acronyms.

Also letters are commonly inserted into acronyms like that to make them pronounceable, to PoS4 wouldn't be entirely unprecedented.
