The news is saying there were potentially 2 people doing the shooting. So if that's true then it's not likely a soldier of one kind or another.

If only those people were armed, they could've defended themselves!

:p

Not everyone walking around a Military base is armed, only a select few, the mandated Armed Guard Force, and these guys will be on the Entrances to the base. There might be a Quick Reaction element waiting for not always. Once you're physically on a Military base, pretty much nobody is armed. I'm stationed at an Air Force base in the UK, one of the bigger ones where several Typhoon Fighter Squadrons are based, they recently made the decision to cease Armed Guard until the threat level is heightened again. The guys on the gate to not even have a weapon anymore, it would probably take around 15 minutes for an armed force to attend anything. They'd have to get someone to get the Armoury Key, take the 5 minute drive to the Armoury, grab the Rifles, drive to the Ammo Store, get the ammo, take the 5 minute drive back. I'm sure you know how much damage you could do in that time.

Actually, I'm a supporter of restricted firearms ownership - not banning them altogether. As I've said many times before, I have several shotguns on the property and occasionally go out shooting rabbits. I also used to be a member of my local shooting range. But I am strongly against firearms being carried in public and consider handguns an unacceptable risk, as they are too easy to conceal. As for the police, I support specialist firearms units but am against the routine arming of the police.

Fair enough, I can respect your opinion, just that your previous comment made it appear you were even attacking your own position on Police and military carrying firearms.

Apparently they have the shooter confined on the 4th floor. With SWAT trapping him. There's a school near by. The marines are guarding it.

I'll bet money he'll be killed. He's gunned down Police, wouldn't be surprised if the people cornering him were colleagues or friends.

Another day, another shooting in 'Merica.

There have probably been shootings in every country on the planet as of the time of this shooting, just because something gets publicity doesn't mean it's the only thing happening.

A witness said that the shooter was definitely an employee of the navy yard.  Either this guy was part of the security or the security sucks.

If it is an employee, security is meaningless unless the building has full security at the front door which most places on a base don't have unless its a very special building. The only place he COULD have been caught is the front gate of the base, but considering how the base here is, chances are the front gate guards just check IDs and let the workers through. Base commanders get pretty pissy about the guards holding up traffic at the front gate at the beginning of the day since it makes everyone late.

They are looking for 2 more possible shooters. It could be a DA police guard, one suspect is 50yrs old and probably got laid off due to furlough.
