Rockstar says installing the "play" disc, in addition to the one marked "install" could create performance issues. Word came via Rockstar's support account on Twitter, in response to customer questions. "An 8GB install is required. For optimal performance, we recommend not installing the play disc," read the tweet. Rockstar didn't respond to additional questions asking for elaboration. For the time being, just don't do it. This potential issue is only relevant to the Xbox 360 version of the game, as the PlayStation 3 edition ships on a single Blu-ray disc. You can install the Play Disc, but not to the drive where the Install Disc is installed so that it doesn't interfere with the texture streaming. http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2013-09-16-rockstar-warns-dont-install-gta5-xbox-360-play-disc There have been a couple of multidisc games on the Xbox 360 in the past with the same problem. There are many different types of USB drives that may support the USB 2.0 specification but will never be able to saturate it, ergo: there are many USB2.0 branded devices out there that are crap even if they sport the USB2.0 branding. Same thing applies to usb 3.0 drives They have the performance to keep up with SATA 3, even with an SSD, but you have to make sure you get one with a good chipset. Manufactures find ways to cut corners and cut costs at the expense of performance. I guess its not a big deal since most people don't care, they aren't using drives with maximum performance in mind. Yeah, Halo 4 spanned 2 disks and warned not to install both, even Halo 3 can come on 2 disks (game and multiplayer) and you shouldn't install both. It's definitely not an Xbox 360 issue as the hard drive has enough speed for proper data streaming. The developer optimizes for data streaming from 2 different sources thus if you install the other disc to another source (USB flash drive e.g.) the delayed data problem does not present itself. If you install both the discs on the hard drive, it becomes sort of a bottleneck and it isn't able to fetch the data efficiently and fast enough, causing pop-in. If you install the play disc to the USB flash drive that problem is solved as it will still fetch data from 2 different sources. There is no digital version for the Xbox 360 right now, but if there is a Games on Demand version in the near future it will require a bit more optimization before release. It then mentions something about not having enough storage space- but he has double checked this and he has more than enough storage.
