MrChris2000
All, I hope this isn't too daft a question, but what happens if I put a PCI Express3 card in a system that only have PCI Express? I would hope it just steps down to what the port allows but I guess it could also fail completely. I have a spare graphics card that I am intending to give to my sister who has quite an old system with only integrated graphics (I'll attach her DxDiag to this post), I'm hoping this will give her something of a boost - enough that my nephew can play Railroad Tycoon & Superfrog at least :) Am I going to be disappointed? Cheers, Chris DxDiag.txt

Mindovermaster Moderator Posted September 19, 2013 Moderator Share Posted September 19, 2013 What is the model and/or specs of her computer? Also, what is the card you are putting in? Her PSU may not be able to handle it, especially if it is premade. PCI-E 3 and PCI-E are backwards compatible, yes.
MrChris2000
Thanks. PSU might be an issue, hadn't thought of that. The card is a Radeon HD5670 (he says, going from memory), I know when I upgraded to my GTX660 I had to buy a new PSU for my system. The system is an old Dell Inspiron 530, but I've no idea the power supply. Guess it's suck it an see time at the weekend on that count.
