My few gripes about WP (Lumia 920)

Recommended Posts

Hi All!

Firstly, I wanted to say I absolutely love my WP and I'm not switching for as long as WP lives... buuuut...

Without spending too much time on narrative here is what I came up with:

My Lumia 920 is not as SMOOTH as the iPhone 5s. The menus scroll smooth as butter on the 5s, while they're a little choppy on my 920, and when i scroll quickly they seem to blur as they move...on the 5s they don't. It's not big, its not functional...but it just doesn't feel as nice.

My Lumia 920 is not as CLEAR as the iPhone 5s. The screen on the 5s is much clearer. I can't really explain it, the edges are just as clean on the 920 (both ~330ppi)...but it just doesn't LOOK as nice! Does anyone else have any idea what I am talking about?

My Lumia 920 is not as "complete" as iOS. I don't expect WP to be quite up to speed with iOS yet as it is drastically younger (2 years old for WP vs 7 years for iOS - a fact people seem to overlook!). There just seem to be some things that just seem half-baked. It is a "productive phone" with office, however I can't attach a PDF to an email! I can't edit the text of a forwarded email, and I can't scroll the position of video playback. It just...isn't finished.

...just my little rant!

I think for the "clearness" of the device is the distance between the glass and the display, with the 920 the glass is farther away and seemingly thicker (gorilla glass) that it hinders the display slightly. For the smoothness and the completeness, you are looking for more fit and finish.

How dare you say bad things about WP8 device? WP8 is the best thing that has happened to the mobile industry (According to some Neowin members).

Actually I agree with all your points and that's why I shifted back to Android. The only 2 advantages Androids have over iPhone are larger screen size and ability to torrent on the device itself. Otherwise I would have shifted over to iPhone.

WP8 is a piece of turd that doesn't even compare. It needs several years of refining and feature additions to bring it up to Android or iOS level. By the time there is feature parity, the UI would become dated and clunky.

Years?  Hardly,  iOS and Android are both mature, so as far as those go adding new great features is over.  It's all fine tuning things and trying to keep the UI new which is the major thing as far as iOS7 goes.   WP is behind but not years behind, it's easier for them to add things the others already have and catch up instead of the others trying to stay ahead at the OS level.

That's called an opinion, your opinion to be precise and you know what they say about those...

Hi there Mr UseLess

1.) This purely depends on age-after fair use over months, like installing apps, browsing, etc. some unused files, registry entries, and tiny unwanted processes accumulate which give the device a slight lag. Your Lumia 920 as I suppose is nearly an year old while you hold a new iPhone 5S, which launched recently. To make the best comparison in this scenario, it is recommended to hard reset your Lumia and your iPhone 5S, which launched recently. It is best to make a comparison after a hard reset on both the devices.

2.) I agree with Mr ians18 on this.

3.) Well, I agree to that partially. You can scroll the position of video playback, and after GDR3 update, you can also attach pdf and office docs in emails. As to editing a message to be forwarded, I completely agree.
