Guide dog shoves blind U.K. woman's baby out of car's path

LEIGH, England, Sept. 21 (UPI) -- A blind British mom says her guide dog pushed her 1-year-old son's stroller out of the path of an oncoming car that hit here and sent her flying.

Jessica Cowley told The Daily Telegraph her black Labrador retriever, Jet, broke free from her and shoved the stroller with young Jacob Cowley out of the way of the car.

"She is a strong dog and she pulled out of my hand and actually pushed the pram out of the way," Cowley said.

The newspaper said it appeared the car that hit Crowley had been struck by another car and pushed into her path as she was crossing the entrance to a parking lot near her Lancashire home.

Even though Crowley was hit by the car, she praised her canine companion for making the right move.

"Even while I was lying face down on the ground, I was happy to know Jacob was safe," she said.

i could be totally wrong, but i don't think dogs have the ability to see cause-and-effect outcomes in that manner, I am betting its pure chance or misinterpretation of what really happened.

I think dogs are very capable of knowing when someone close to them is in danger.

Yeah, because we hardly ever see stories about how Dogs saved peoples lives. /s

I think Dogs are more intelligent than you're giving them credit for.

While I can see why you would have doubts, every year scientists seem to discover that various animals are capable of various things that we never really thought they can do. So I wouldn't rule it out.

being trained to save lives is different then what i mean. If you wish to test it, try it. Lay down in the middle of train track when one is coming. Have the dog you have chosen (yours or someone else's) beside you and see if they try to save you.

Well dogs really look after little kids. However there was one case where a baby was on the floor and the dog lay on top of her to keep her warm but the dog didn't know that it was hurting the baby and sadly the baby died :(  I don't blame the dog though it was only following instinct and protecting the baby.
