PS4 screens show user interface

Sony has released some lovely new high res screens for the PlayStation 4 user interface. They look so good you'll almost think it's the real thing.

Some of these have been seen before, although not in such high definition glory. So since it's a quiet day let's have a look.

PS4 is out on November 29.

Hmm, I really wish we had a video of how the ui looks from when you first boot up like we did for the early Xbox UI look.

I think these screens look alright, but I'm confused as to how it all works together.  How will my home page look and then how does navigation to other sections look.

I will say this, the more I see, the more I can see similarities with MS' design choices.  Using large images to point out the important content for each section.  An overall 'flat' look. I'm not sure if I like it or not yet.

The interfaces for both consoles look great. As for usability, it will be difficult to know until people actually get to use them. This is really what Valve needs to do with SteamOS if it is to stand any chance of competing for casual gaming.

Just hope it is smooth and snappy. Nothing worse than a jarring, freezing UI. The current PS Store is a lot like that.

I think the PS4 will have (it better) the juice to minimize/eliminate any lag on the main Dash, and it's sub screens.

If there is any delay, I would start to question the programming team at Sony. Because the specs of the PS4, are BEASTLY...

So it wouldn't be a hardware issue...

After looking at both UI's I think I will like the Xbox One UI over the PS4 UI.  I'm still getting a PS4 first but after watching the video of the Xbox One UI in action and hoping that the PS4 UI is smoother than the current UI.

Wow looks more win 8/metro than I thought it would be.

At least from what I can see on this phone.

I honestly didn't care much for the whole design aspect originally, but it's really growing on me. I thought Microsoft would be the ones to blow my socks off refining their whole Metro/ModernUI look or theme, but Sony seems to be doing a great job here. I only wish they'd push it to the Vita too, as I'm not fond of those spheres on the Vita. :P

As others said though, unless the UI runs smooth as butter, I won't be particularly excited. It absolutely annoys me when companies spend more time on animations than they do optimizing the software/hardware to actually run those sleek animations. (one of the reasons I never wanted to jump on the Android platform for instance)

I predict the Xbox One's interface will most likely look similar to this!

It is interesting how it seems that both MS and Sony took cues either purposely or by accident from Windows Media Center, a product that debuted 8 years ago.

Personally, I'm fine with both UIs.  They both so far looks rather clean and slick.  As long as both perform smoothly, I'm happy.

At this point though, we have seen more of the X1 UI in motion than the PS4, so I hope we get to see more of it before launch.

media center was kind of the start of the Metro (modern) UI

I would assume the color scheme as with the PS3 and PS Vita can be easily changed and they just chose to show this blue and green one as that is a super safe combination to show.

I actually may be the only person who had zero issues with the current PS3 UI. Sure, the PSN Store is awful how slow it is, and the UI of the PSN Store left a little to be desired, however the actual UI of the PS3? I personally love it. It is super simple, one can change the icons and colors based on different themes. It just works, and it was also incredibly fast when the Store itself was not involved.

I would personally love if both companies allowed for a bit of customization of their UI's. Meaning if I am not a person who does a lot of the social related aspects, I can choose to hide or bury those features, and really just have the focus be on gaming. I know that is just wishful thinking, and both will need their areas for advertisements even if they are veiled as gaming related, but that has always been my biggest beef with the 360 UI, and it unfortunately feels like Sony is moving more towards that direction as well. I do not need "targeted advertisements" showing up on my gaming console, even if they are relevant to the games I am playing. As I said though, just wishful thinking, as they need to pay those bills somehow.
