Google fixes Android just as fast.  OEMs simply don't get it out there as fast, and carriers also cause a problem.

 

Apple has a far superior update system.

The fast updates are useless to anyone using a device that can't access the update straight away, but yes Google is fast to solve problems for Nexus / Google edition devices.

This. Carriers are the worst. Still waiting for the GDR2/Amber update for my Lumia 920. It's been what, 2, maybe 3 months now?

 

I downloaded the update for iOS 7 about 2 minutes after Apple published it.

FYI iPad still has choppy animation for five finger pinch and is slow to change wallpapers.

 

They're about the only bugs I've noticed, so not sure if others are still present. Really does seem like a super quick security patch.

Just got it. I agree, I respect the fact that Apple keeps the devices under their control and make sure all of their customers are treated equally (don't you dare argue with that).

Google and Microsoft should take core OS updates out of the hands of carriers and OEMs. Their stuff can sit on top, but the core features of the OS should be patched using an update system that bypasses the carriers and OEMs. IMO.

 

That said, Apple has a level playing field and don't have to worry about breaking stuff in an "unintended consequences" kind of way.

I understand that carriers will have to manage all those updates on Android, due to the 4000 different Android models that have been worked on over the years. Idk about you guys, but doesn't the amount of models sort of **** you off? Because the ecosystem of Android as a whole gets to me.

Well thats it, imagine MS/G pushing an update and it causing serious bugs on a specific device.. i guess they don't want that burden but it must be frustrating to see bugs get fixed then wait months for an update from the vendor, thats enough to keep me off those systems really.

I honestly believe that once MS completes the purchase of Nokia they will do this.

That is probably because no one tested that part which Apple didn't know... so Apple was notified about it and got it fixed so they let the users know about the update due the security reasons.

No, I mean I think I recall reading here it was reported repeatedly as a bug during beta. If not here, I'm sure I read somewhere that someone had reported this issue already and it was ignored during the beta.

Apple seems notorious for not reading bug reports. I filed several during iOS 7's beta run and not a single one has been looked at or responded to. Hell, I have some open bug reports dating back to Lion that are still empty.

 

In fact, I have exactly two bug reports that were noted, by being closed immediately with "duplicate feedback." If they do look at bug reports, you think they'd at least note it somewhere.
