My back USB ports randomly shut down?

Recommended Posts

Hello! I'm kinda new to this forum but I need some help... My back USB ports randomly shutdown after an hour or so! I don't know why but it's really frustrating after I'm in the middle of a LoL match... (:3)

To fix this I need to restart my computer... I've changed the settings in device manager so that the USB Root Hub and Generic USB Hub don't close after if it's low on power. (Can desktop computers run low on power? Wouldn't they just shutdown? You can probably tell I'm bad with them.) And I've changed my power management settings so they don't close my USB ports when I'm low on power. Plus I've tried unplugging my computer after reading that online... To no avail none of it has worked. My front USB ports still function well but my back ones just shutdown. This has happened all of a suddenly and I know it isn't my mouse/headphones because they both shutdown at exactly the same time...

So in conclusion... any advice? :c

Well the ports are on the motherboard, so more than likely it's a motherboard issue. You could try removing the USB from the device manager and reinstalling all the ports. But my guess would be motherboard.

How close is your PSU to being maxed out load wise?

I had a problem with my PC where when I changed my graphics card and took the PSU too close to the maximum rated power, the USB ports would randomly stop working during playing games, but would be fine during general Windows operation.

Remember, the capacitors in your PSU age too, dropping the maximum power rating over time.

Umm, he doesn't have a USB "card", it's onboard. But I'd agree on the PSU. What's your system specs? CPU, GPU, PSU, RAM, HDDs.
