Baz_
Ok guys my intention where to setup a vm for media server, so stream music videos to kids iPads laptop and tv. Would it be best to use a VM for this or just have a prog running in the background of windows, Also if vm is best wouldi setup a virtual drive to transfer files etc over to the vm .. I plan to run this, gaming and a game server emulator ..
DConnell Member Posted October 4, 2013 Member Share Posted October 4, 2013 I'm not sure about the game server emulator, but for a media server, I suggest TVersity. I've used it for years, and it streams to a wide variety of devices. I use it to stream to my 360, my modded XBOX running XBMC, and XBMC on my tablet and laptop. I believe it has presets for iPad but I've never had reason to test it. Basically, anything that works with a UPNP media server should work with TVersity. And like Lunamonkey says below, the performance would be poor in a VM. Run your media server software on the main OS rather than a VM.
lnmnky
Unless you are using VMWare or Hyper-V, I think that the performance would be a little poor for streaming in Virtual PC. Hyper V machines act pretty much like the host and can be seen by the networked PCs also. They will run on boot and in the background without you even noticing.
