Grand Theft Auto V Petition Has Over 572K Supporters

Recommended Posts

The Change.org petition urging Rockstar Games to port Grand Theft Auto V to the PC has around 72,000 more supporters than it had the last time we checked. As of this writing, the petition has 572,777 supporters - up from the 500,000 it had on Sept. 26.

The petition has garnered a lot of support since the game was released on Xbox 360 and PS3 on Sept. 17. Prior to hitting the 500,000 mark, the petition had a little over 450,000 signatures about a week ago - up from just over 365,000 signatures a little after the game's retail release. It had 200,000 signatures in July.

Meanwhile, the petition to bring the game to the Wii U is now at 6,407 supporters, up from the 5,894 supporters it had managed to get as of Sept. 26.

You can find the PC petition here and the Wii U petition here.

Rockstar has not publicly commented on its plans to bring the game to either platform.

My bet is that they're looking into porting it to PC at some point, but they probably aren't in a hurry after raking on over $1 billion in sales in 3 days.  More people signing up for that petition doesn't detract from the sheer amount of money they're making even without a PC version.

Awesome article.  You have to read through more than half of it before finding out WTF the petition's even about.

And it's pretty much pointless.  Of course it's gonna come out for the PC, Rockstar doesn't need to make an announcement for that.  As for the Wii U...I don't know, even if every single last Wii U owner bought it, that'd still be under 4 million copies (according to Wikipedia, which pegs it at 3.61M units), which is downright laughable.

I wonder how many people on that petition would actually PAY for the game instead of downloading a cracked copy from torrents/ftp

I'd wager many people would be like me and wait for it to be uber cheap on a steam sale.

It depends on the quality of the port. If it's saddled with GFWL, Rockstar Social Club and SecuROM and is terribly ported like GTAIV then that will significantly hurt sales. But the reality is that there's more than enough money to be made from the legitimate sales and some of those who pirate a game and like it go on to buy it (though that in no way justifies piracy). The console versions were pirated long before release, so I don't see how it's relevant.

They probably need to figure out their approach is all it is. Seeing as the abomination known as GFWL is dead, hopefully they can maybe get into talks with Valve if they haven't already so we can have a proper set of achievements to track and such. Not sure how they plan on handling the online mode though, which I'm sure is some of the details that would need to be ironed out.

Still, I'm pretty sure we can expect it if anything. There's plenty of people wanting it, but whether the profits will outweigh the resources required, or give them a return that's worth the investment will be up to them. They do seem interested though, given the details that have emerged regarding a PC version already.

Given the capabilities of mods, it wouldn't be unheard of for console owners of the game to pick up the PC version on top of it.

Although some people would pirate the game no matter how decent the port was. I think CD Project Red went DRM free with both The Witcher and The Witcher 2 and those games got pirated to all hell.

I was thinking they are working on it, it's just going to be based on the Xbone and PS4 version.

More likely its the opposite they probable already have working PC version and will downgrade this version to the Xbone and PS4.   Just like BF4.

I still remember Red Dead Redemption. Plenty of people wanted that game for the pc but it never came to be. So there is a precedent for Rockstar not releasing their games on pc set already.

Despite that every other GTA game has a pc version so there is hope. Will I buy it though? I want to play the game pretty damn bad but at this point I probably won't get it until it's less than half it's current retail price.

That's the price you pay for delaying a release Rockstar.

My coworker bought it and he said I could borrow it when he was done playing it.  I'm fine with waiting for that, however if a PC version were released before Christmas I would probably buy it.  Not going to buy the XBox 360 version though.... at least not until I can pick it up used.

Sucks that RedBox only has the PS3 version.

Signed. After spending nearly 2000$ on my main PC and an additional 600$ on a living room gaming PC, there's no way I'm buying an Xbox 360 just for this game.

Agreed, I plan on buying it on PC as soon as it comes out. I have it on Xbox and I was quite disappointed with the rendering and view distance on the Xbox. It can't compare to PCs. But that's the price you pay with 8 year old hardware.

The potential of mods is also rather exciting.

This petition proves that 572 thousand people haven't paid attention to Rockstars release history. Every GTA game since GTA 3 has taken 7-9 months to be released on PC after consoles.

I'm gonna go with most of them given the $1 billion in revenue in under 3 days they made...

Ok, the PC version I fully support, but to anyone who has/had a Wii U, and remember playing Assasins Creed and Batman:Arkham City on it knows the Wii U can handle 3rd party ports very well, lots of slow down, stuttering, lag, and crashes, GTA 5 would be a nightmare, probably would cause that poor little system to burst into flames..

Yes, cause rushed launch day ports are the perfect indicator of what a console can do.

With your logic we should have never seen games look better than cod2 on the current gen consoles.

Its pretty unusual to not have a game that's on the PC as well as on consoles. There is a considerably big amount of gamers on PCs, and Rockstar would only be losing out not having a PC version.

I never said that, I was just saying the Wii U doesnt have the hardware capability to sucessfully handle a full port of GTA 5, I mean maybe if they dumb it down, reduce the textures, strip it down, then maybe the Wii U can have a port, but it wouldn't be nearly on the grand scale that the PC, 360, and PS3 can do.. Besides, why wasn't GTA 4 ever ported over to the Wii U? That woudve been a pretty good example of what the Wii U can actually handle.
