Had to go back to Windows 7 for now. Though I will try Windows 8.1 once it comes out on the Oct. 14th.

Windows Updates I don't like in Windows 8 you can't see what is going on. Plus it takes to long it seems. That is not the only thing just all I can think of right now.

Wish I could like Windows 8.

If there was a way to make Windows 8 Windows Update look like Windows 7 that would be awesome!?

Just open it from the desktop Control Panel and it's exactly the same as Win7.

Windows 8 is a mess. However it becomes very much like Windows 7 once you use the stardock utility for menu like Windows 7. The tiles and other aspects of Windows 8 is unfinished work and Microsoft rush this product. The biggest let down for me is the fonts rendering in Windows 8. However the fonts are much more smoother with Ati based graphic cards.

I did something like you I did went back to Windows 7 but I will try the new Windows 8.1.

Do you really need to see what is going on? I gave up on focusing on WU years ago. It's meant as a "behind the scenes" service now, so you can carry on with your day without worrying about do this or that.

But, if you really need to, just do what Jakem1 said above. Right click the Start button corner, and click Control Panel, then browse to Windows Updates.

Just customise it to be more like 7, while reaping the benefits of 8.

Problem?

I have to admit that even though I used Win8 I wasn't that happy. Win8.1 gave me the wow factor.

I feel much the same, have been using 8 and more recently 8.1 on my desktop and laptop for several months but going to plug my Win7 drive back in over the weekend. Have been unable to resolve intermittent problems with file and printer sharing. I quite like the look of it especially the 8.1 start screen and will keep it on the laptop. I also don't use the app store and find the apps completely irrelevant for desktop use. Sorry

Why are there even two control panels to begin with?!

Look I use and enjoy Windows 8, but it really is a mess.  For example, what about adding new LOCAL accounts on the computer?  Control Panel - User Accounts can no longer add accounts?!  Really?  I have to go to the modern interface and add the account there.  What about making it administrator?  Nope, I cannot do that in the modern area, I have to do that in the desktop control panel.
