FX Networks? comedy series Wilfred has been for a fourth and final season of 10 episodes. As part of the renewal, the series, which has aired its past three seasons on FX, will move to sister network FXX which launched earlier this year and is home to such scripted series as The League, Legit and It?s Always Sunny In Philadelphia.

Wilfred is based on the Australian TV series of the same name and was developed for American television by David Zuckerman. The series is about a young man, Ryan (Elijah Wood), struggling unsuccessfully to make his way in the world until he forms a unique friendship with Wilfred (Jason Gann), his neighbor?s pet dog. Everyone else sees Wilfred as just a dog, but Ryan sees a crude and somewhat surly, yet irrepressibly brave and honest Australian bloke in a cheap dog suit. The series is produced by FX Productions and stars Elijah Wood, Jason Gann, Fiona Gubelmann and Dorian Brown.

The renewal comes despite a drop in viewership for the show?s third season, which wrapped its 13 episode run last month with the average audience dropping to below 1 million viewers. After stepping down as showrunner at the end of season 2, Zuckerman, who originally developed the series for FX, will be taking on a greater role for season four serving as co-showrunner alongside Reed Agnew and Eli Jorn?.
