  1. 1. Would you kill someone for a winning lottery ticket?

I would never kill anyone. Even if I could get away with it, it's just so morally wrong and I wouldn't be able to live with myself.

I'd rather be poor and have a good conscience than have all the money in the world and have that on my shoulders.

THIS.

All of you who imply that everything has a price, including murder, need a psychiatrist check, fast. Murder has no price for me, whatsoever.

Not for such a small figure.

j/k, I wouldn't kill anyone even for a trillion. Such an offer would clearly seem to me as if someone was trying to set me up :D

That's my point.  Everyone had a price, but I stated that it's not always economic.  Condemning someone for where their line is feels a little naive to me.

I've seen dead people, seen them killed over less than ?1000.  Seen their corpses left by their killers, who the next day won't even bat an eyelid.  I'd not saying it's right, it's just how it is.

Just because you've witnessed that doesn't mean you need to adhere to that mentality. There are sick-minded people everyone, it doesn't mean you have to join the party.

Let's up the stakes, you could put a gun to my head and say "Kill that man across the street and I'll give you this case with 100 billion in it, or if you don't, I'm going to shoot you in the head"....frankly, I'd say pull the trigger. As I stated earlier, you can't put a value on a human life.

Eh, that's not really comparable. The original question was whether you would kill for money, you're asking whether you'd shoot for survival. The case with 100 billion is irrelevant when someone has a gun at your head. If someone gave you the choice of either killing someone else or being shot, you'd kill the other person. Humans have a primal instinct to survive that overrides any sense of morality. It's why we'll kill our attackers in self defense if we have to.

Regarding the original question, I'd definitely consider it. But I don't think I would go through with it. At the end of the day, money can only buy you so much. So long as I can afford a comfortable life on my own merits, where I don't have to stress about bills and expenses, I am happy.

The topic title seems a little misleading, I came in thinking it was going to be about how Neowin displaying ads or uses the money they get from Sub's.

That was my thought too. Then I saw it was a public poll. (N)

I don't believe you, but, I don't think you're lying.

Primal instincts will make you do things you'd never, ever think you'd do. The chemical processes control you at this lower level, you really have little say in it. Strong morals, even the strongest of morals, can only help so much. If it were me, I'm confident in your scenario that I would kill the other person (the $100 Billion would be of no influence in that decision).

We're getting offtopic. The original question was "Would you kill someone for a winning lottery ticket?".

The fact that 17% responded YES is a frightening thing.

We truly deserve the (violent) society we have. Next time someone kills a buddy you love for a few pennies or for a stupid ideology, please do not get mad, understand the killer and just be compassionate with him/her. He just HAD a reason to do it.

For a winning lottery ticket? No, I could not kill someone. But there are plenty of other situations that I can think of where I could. It's not psychotic, it's self-preservation (or the preservation of something or someone dear to you).

Also, what if the person that has the winning ticket killed the original owner of the ticket for it? By your reasoning on the previous page it would be ok for me to beat the new owner senseless? He's a good for nothing that killed someone else for some money, after all.

Some days I'd kill for a cold pint of beer.  :pint:

Morally I don't think I could kill for money, it would play on my mind for the rest of my days, and I'm a great believer in karma, so I would always be waiting for something terrible happening to me.

What if that person was terminally ill, in pain and asked you do to it, and you would still get the money afterwards. Does that change your perspective?

If someone terminally ill asked me to do it and if get away with it. I'd be more open to it. But only if its an indirect method. Switching off a plug or giving poison. If it be as hands on like suffocating I couldnt.

you might be rich but it wont make you happy. No amount of money makes people happy. Look how much rich people cause suicide. And the fact that youll have murder always on your mind would make it twice as bad.
