I wonder what the expected life of one of these Steam Machines is... Small box, hot components, underpowered PSU...

 

 

As I understand it, most parts are just going to be over the counter parts. If that is the case, they should be easily upgradeable. Just like a PC.

My 500 watt PSU works fine with my i5 2500k @ 4Ghz and a GTX 770!

 

Your system is under powered. The minimum requirement for your GPU is 600 watt. That is because the GTX 770 uses approximently 390 watts under load. Your CPU uses about 164 watts. That is 554 watts. 54 watts more than your PSU can put out, and that is not including your moatherboard, RAM, HDD's and soundcard.

You're straining your PSU and that is not good. You're severly shortning it's life span. PSU's are most efficianct between 50% to 60% load. You should invest in a new power supply.

Impossibru! Read the chart, that power usage is for the whole system.

*80% AFAIK most efficient.
