Which GPU is better..

Recommended Posts

I'm wondering which GPU is better out of the two following, that as far as i know are the top of the line of low-profile graphics cards.. I don't know much about what the technical specifications mean, what is the better all round card?

Sapphire Radeon HD 7750 Low Profile 1GB

Cape Verde Pro

Core Clock Speed: 1071 MHz

28nm Chip

128bit GDDR5

512 Stream Processors

Actual Shader Performance: 332.8

Memory Speed: 1125MHz (72GB/Sec BW)

Open GL 4.2

Power Consumption: 55w

Texture Rate: 25.6 GTexel/s

Render Output Units: 16

Pixel Rate: 12.8 GPixel/s

Zotac GeForce GTX 650 Low Profile 1GB

Kepler GK107

Core Clock Speed: 800 MHz

28nm Chip

128bit GDDR5

384 Stream Processors

Actual Shader Performance: 384

Memory Speed: 1250MHz (80GB/Sec BW)

Open GL 4.3

Power Consumption: not sure on exact figure but it's a lot higher than the 7750

From what i can see the 650 uses far more power than the 7750... the 650 has a much bigger clock speed, but 7750 has more shaders, then i found a value 'actual shader performance' that puts it lower than the 650.. i also found extras on the 7750 (texture rate, render output units and pixel rate) that i couldn't find on the GTX?

I'm guessing the GTX is better, but whats more important, clock speed or shaders? I currently own the 7750 which serves me OK, i noticed some lag in Black Ops 2 which was fixed by switching off antialising - it was on x4, is switched it to x2, it was better, then off was amazing but to be honest i didn't notice any difference in the graphics.

So, i think it's going to cripple on BF4 which i'll be trying later, is it worth replacing it with the GTX? I know i'm very limited with low profile graphics cards at the moment so i want to get the absolute best on the market.

if you can add few extra bucks, you can get HD 7770 which is far better than GTX 650 & HD 7750 !

but if you are asking just between mentioned two, then GTX 650 is winner.

One can't really compare numbers of two different architectures as directly as more shaders or higher clock means more powah.

No, 650 is not a great deal better. They trade paint in reviews and benchmarks and in several Radeon optimized games (Dirt) even comes out on top. I figure that will be the case with BF4 as well. Also, the official TDP rating of 650 is 80W, which suggests that it's largely not worth the swap.

the core speed of the 7750 is 800mhz and the core speed of the 650 is 1058Mhz
the 7750 has 512 shaders, while the 650 has 384

amd: 800Mhz x 2(MAD) x 512 = 819GFLOPS
nvida: 1058Mhz x 2(MAD) x 384 = 812GFLOPS

although gflops don't mean jack because this is only one part of the pipeline, but we can get an idea that the 2 card will be somewhat similar in performance. NVidia uses less shaders but jacks up the clocks. this is going to result in more power consumption, and more heat, but at the same time, although the shaders are now in similar in performance to the amd, the other sections of the NVidia GPU are running much faster, like the ROPS, geometry engine,etc...

looking at benchmarks, we see performance is neck and neck on some games, but the gtx 650 does pull away a lot of times

based on this information, I would personally go with the gtx 650

I don't think you can get a 7770 as a low profile

There's no point replacing it. They're fairly similar cards (sometimes one is better, sometimes the other), but since BF4 appears to be highly optimized for AMD hardware, you're probably better off saving your money and keeping your 7750 :)

I suspect that neither will offer great performance in BF4 though.

Thanks guys i'll stick with it then and look into overclocking it.

How often do we see new low profile cards come out?

Only other option is a different case, but really wanted something small as it's placed under my main living room TV

That it came across rather rude, I'm rather sorry about.

That's ok, it's always good to learn something. I'll avoid that site and use actual real world benchmarks from now on. :)

I've found a case that can take a graphics card up to 11" which afaik is standard?

I'm wondering if it's worth getting a new case for the sake of going from a 7750 to a 7850? Or if i'm doing it should i be getting a 7950? is a 7850 suitable for BF4? Or maybe look at NVIDIA cards?

Is there something worth buying over the new R9 270X ? I was going for the 7870, R9 270X seems the logical replacement... basically looking for the best card in the ?150 range.
