Growled Member Posted October 7, 2013 Member Share Posted October 7, 2013 That is just horrible. My thoughts and prayers go out to them.
FloatingFatMan
Having been to one of these shows before, I'm kinda surprised something like this isn't more common. It's pretty clear they can barely control those things when at full throttle. It's very much a point, press and pray. StarkWiz
Just horrible. After going through article and video, I don't think drivers at fault but not really sure. This could have happened anytime, from the video it looks like there is no security and the crowd is completely vulnerable to the truck. There is nothing setup that could possible slow down the truck or reduce damage in such events.
chrisj1968
well there was no protections of any kind for spectators. In the US there are grandstands for the fans atleast
Growled Member Posted October 7, 2013 Member Share Posted October 7, 2013 well there was no protections of any kind for spectators. In the US there are grandstands for the fans atleast I went to one recently that offered almost no protection if one of those trucks got out of control. TAZMINATOR
They should add concrete barriers around the trucks track.... Otherwise, sit way back if no protection around... StarkWiz 1 Share
Phantom Helix
Found the video, even though they said he may have been drinking, it seems like the throttle got stuck
TAZMINATOR
Found the video, even though they said he may have been drinking, it seems like the throttle got stuck See what I said before your post. Barriers can stop from keep going into the crowd when the driver is out of control or something is stuck.
_dandy_
I've been to tractor pull competitions where the only thing separating spectators standing at the end of a track and the incoming tractor was a flimsy chain link fence...with the potential to put this little monster truck event to shame. People can be oblivious or dumb. Or both.

FloatingFatMan
Prosecutors in Mexico say they will charge the driver of a monster truck that crashed into spectators at a show on Saturday with negligent homicide. Eight people died and 86 were injured when the modified truck ploughed into the public at the event in Chihuahua. The driver has told police he lost control of the truck after he hit his head on the roof of the cabin. The monster truck with 1.5m-high (5ft) wheels was performing a demolition stunt during an annual air show. Spokesman for the Chihuahua state prosecutors' office Carlos Gonzalez said the driver's breath had smelled of alcohol at the time of the accident, but that later tests had revealed no sign of intoxication. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-latin-america-24443546 Good! DocM
He obviously wasn't using a sufficiently strong harness and/or proper competition seat. Wonder if he even had a helmet? Idiot.
