Do you think I can get $600-$650 for my launch edition PS4?

Recommended Posts

I was fortunate enough to snag a launch day PS4 pre-order from Amazon as soon as the orders went live during E3. I received my confirmation email from Amazon (who were even nice enough to give me some high priority shipping on the house)

I am looking to sell this PS4 on day 1 and then re-buy a PS4 when inFamous 2nd Son comes out.

This plan will very much depend on how many PS4's Sony has manufactured of course.

I am looking to let it go for $600-$650. Sure it's a tad bit high, but not those crazy prices you see on eBay at least.

People who buy launch editions just to sell at inflated prices?

Let's just suggest that I'm not a fan of such people...

If there are impatient people willing to pay the price, then so be it. I personally am not a fan of impatience.

(for the record, I don't do this. I just believe in personal responsibility)

There will be legit gamers who can't get one because people have bought them just to sell.  Not exactly losing sleep over it but it sucks.

If it was a necessity, I'd understand. People upset about getting their entertainment items quickly enough really don't have my sentiments though.

Perhaps my views or perspective is a bit misguided, given how I was raised.

I do believe time = money, so if it saves you the headaches of driving around store to store wasting gas, time, and resources to spend some extra dollars on an item you want to have now, but maybe didn't plan accordingly for, then cool. It's probably worth the price. This is why I largely don't really believe in waiting in line for a week just for Black Friday either: if you just went to work that week instead of sitting outside like a fool, you'd probably have the money in hand that you would have "saved" and then some!

Just my 2 cents though.

This +1000

I'm getting a console at launch this time around, but I have never seen a reason to pay more than retail for one.  I usually don't buy one at launch at all, but this time is different.  People can be a little crazy about these little pieces of tech that only offer entertainment.

Probably get more. I don't see the point in selling it though.

That's because your not trying to make an easy buck lol. Just wait and you'll see plenty of people scalping X1s and PS4s for far more than anyone should buy them at.  Everyone seems to be hinting at shortages.

I'm with you though.  If you aren't interested in a console, don't buy it.  If you are, don't sell it.

There are more honest ways to make money...

Nothing at all dishonest about it. morals and ethics may play in, but they're kinda personal.

Personally if I bought it and realized there was no interesting launch day games. I'd sell it for as high as I could possibly go.

Well it is a shrewd business move tbh which wil attract ALOT of haters.... but as far as the $650 is, id try to closely watch the supply/demand rumours as its these things that drive prices up/dow artificially. less supply more demand abnd if tue coupled wih the ps4's superior gfx performance could prolly push $800 before xmas... after xmas forget  it no one cares

not saying ps4 is graphically superior btw, just the percieved runmours of it being better is what drives prices up

I don't feel morally bad at all about this. I am going to have a PS4 (have had every Playstation generation).

"Honest ways to make a buck"?? Im not jacking/robbing this from anyone. I was blessed to have the money saved up for years waiting for next gen to arrive.

I'm not not trying trying to dangle a cure for Aids over people's heads, and how much $$$ they have depends on rather they get a cure or not (I would just give it away to help save lives)

This doesn't make or brake anyone's life... If people are out there buying PS4's and have more important things in life to spend their $$$ on... Well let's just say, I really hope they don't buy the PS4 from me.

You and me both. Makes me despair for the greed of people sometimes, and how happy people are to make a fast buck at other peoples expense.

If I were you.. I'd sell you pre-ordered Xbone, might get more money for it.

I actually thought about this as well. All of my friends and family are going Xbox One first and PS4 later.

inFamous which is due in the Spring of 2014, will be when I pick up a PS4 to keep.

Why are you blaming the people that are selling them and not the people that are buying them?

Do people not have the same access to the same sources as I to get these items? My quick thinking is wrong? Amazon, GameStop, Game, Best Buy, etc were all taking pre-orders for months. People "who really want one" would have acted on that. And not to mention several of those places we're allowed to take pre-orders again for launch day for a PS4.

If anyone really wanted to get a reservation and did not do so in the 90 or so days they were available, they did not really want it that badly. Some places ask for a small deposit (some places like Amazon dont charge anything for pre-order). Don't finger point and name call that I am taking away someone else's opportunity. Like I said, this is a entertainment device, not life or death.

If I don't manage to sell it... That's fine too. The money was always there to pay for it.. I don't jeopardize my family well being at all.

I'll just end up owning the PS4 during launch, and make use of it.

I was one of the dumb, dumbs who bought a PS3 at launch. And it wasn't even worth $600 at that time (don't care how good the Cell processor was suppose to be). But that was my decision to make, no one held a gun to my head.

Just play their ones.

I could do that. But I do like the idea of just walking upstairs from the man cave and being with my wife and kids. No gas needed for that. But if the demand for Xbox One gets to crazy prices it may be something to consider as well. I have so many PS3 and 360 games, they would definitely hold me over for awhile.

I actually have two preorders for Xbox One, one from amazon and one direct from MS. Purely as I was I tending to get my dad one too with the family sharing stuff, but since that got nixed for now, I may sell the second. Not quite sure how that'd work though as I technically haven't paid anything for it
