Neil deGrasse Tyson watching "Gravity"

That was my reaction when watching the trailer. The film is supposed to be very good but I really can't stand bad CGI and implausible physics.

Nothing more fun than a smug ******* who can't enjoy a piece of entertainment.

I dont understand entertainment that needs to dumb itself down to entertain.

I think you need to calm down. He is perfectly entitled to point out the inaccuracies of the film, particularly when any decent consulting could have easily prevented them. I mean, he is an expert in the field.

It wasn't directed at him, but people in general who love to point out every implausible thing going on while you're trying to watch a movie.

In another words, most forms of entertainment.

Personally, while I'm no fan of the absurd, it's only when I realize how silly I look when pointing out inaccuracies in fiction that I realize, "What the hell am I doing.. I just saw an alien, but I'm arguing how they installed a virus onto their system that will somehow magically work, despite language barriers, use of code, methods, and pretty much every-goddamn-thing..."

That's when I realize I sound like a douche bag hahaha!

It's only a movie...it's only a movie...it's only a movie..........

It's only a movie until you get into an argument about whether movies are art.

Then all of the sudden reading into it is the most important thing in the world.

Astronauts and Astronomers are 2 different things.

More like Astronauts and Theoretical Physicists are 2 different things: one of them deals in the reality of things, the other... well, let's just say there's a lot of imagination at work. ;)

Saw a comment about Sandra Bullock's character in the movie (I haven't seen it) being a medical doctor by profession but doing work on the Hubble - astronauts cross-train like nobody's business so yes, a medical doctor by profession would get extensive training for such a mission. That's done to cover all possible potentials like a crew member getting sick or something happening which would prevent the planned person from accomplishing a specific objective so you end up with an entire crew of people that can get the job(s) done if absolutely necessary as they get instructions "from the ground" as needed.

But yeah, I can see from some of the things Tyson has said after seeing this movie that are just nothing but nitpicking in the extremes for no good reason other than to have Twitter material. <insert_rolling_eyes_here> :ike:
