When is Q1 2014?

Recommended Posts

I remember hearing that business-wise, it's the three months before the actually date stated.

If my memory is correct, that would mean Q1 2014 is Oct-Dec 2013, yes?

For normal people Q1 2014 is Jan - Mar 31st

I've won Early Access for Carmageddon: Reincarnation and it states Q1 2014.

Business-wise, I remember hearing that actually means the end of 2013.

I could be wrong, though.

Nah there are quarters and fiscal quarters, fiscal Q1 (usually) starts in April and runs to April the next year.

I was just about to point this out. It's never made sense to me (although to be fair I've never taken the time to learn about why it is like this).

The year is split into 4 quarters,

  • Q1 (quarter1) is Jan-Mar
  • Q2 (quarter2) is Apr-Jun
  • Q3 (quarter3) is Jul-Sep
  • Q4 (quarter4) is Oct-Dec

The above is what we follow in UK banking business, I know other countries start their quarter based on the fiscal year

That's just weird. Why does the US gov. does that?

According to Wikipedia it was to give Congress more time to come up with a budget (HA!)

Think about it, 12 months... what number can you multiply by 4 to get 12? that's it!! 3 so a quarter is 3 months long

Don't think his question was asking that, in some countries they start there Quarters with the Fiscal year, this can be April for example.

In reality, it depends on the business. Some businesses start their fiscal years in months other than Jan. When they do that, they usually just refer to their quarters as Q1, Q2, etc, without including the actual year.

When you're looking at a game release date, however, thats going to be calendar year.

You are confusing fiscal quarters vs calendar quarters. Fiscal quarters can be anytime the company has set. I think Apple fiscal year ends in June while Microsoft ends in September or something like that. So a Fiscal quarter can be July-September for Apple in this case or March to June for another company.

(FYI - I'm just guessing, didn't look up the exact times but I know their fiscal years end different than calendar years :p)
