Free Mafia II or Civilization 5 for voting on CVG's Golden Joystick Awa

Hey folks, thought I would share this news with the people who are interested in acquiring either Mafia II or Civiilzation 5 for free.  The people at CVG, with the cooperation of Green Man Gaming, is allowing people to participate in voting for their favorite games in the Golden Joystick Awards 2013. 

 

Until October 20, 2013, you can visit http://www.computerandvideogames.com/joystick/homepage.php and vote for your favorite games in various categories listed. 

 

When you do complete your ballot and receive notification about redeeming your game, it will take you to the Green Man Gaming site and you'll have to fill out a form there and choose either Mafia II or Civ 5 as your free game.  When you do fill the form, make sure the email address you provide is the same address you used on CVG's site when you voted. 

 

An email will arrive in your inbox will containing a vote verification link.  The link will let you know whether your votes was registered or not.  It usually takes 24 hours, though it could be shorter, for your votes to register. If you click beforehand, it will notify you that you didn't vote but don't be alarmed just check back later on in the day. When your vote verification link goes through, a second email is sent to your inbox containing a steam key for your chosen game.

 

Hopefully when you go there the server isn't as bogged down as it was when I went there so be warned if the site isn't very responsive.  And if the info I posted here is confusing or missing some details, I apologize.

Guess I can get my hands on Mafia II now then :)

 

I didn't get an error, I just got told to wait for a mail that seems to take a long time after doing the GG registration.

yep, it looks like the system broke due to the offer of a free game.

 

Nah that's not it.  It usually takes, for most, 24 hours before GMG can confirm your votes were registered, but I've heard from a few that it took half a day.  Check the link again later on in the day or tomorrow.

Got my mail with the game now, so not half a day atleast :)

I wish I could've received my game that quickly, but I'm glad everything worked out for you.

telling me the same thing, guess i will wait a few hours and try it again. I will be getting Civilization 5 so i can give it to a friend of mine.

If you are getting the "you didn't vote" page you might have to wait 12+ hours for your vote to be processed. My link just worked, downloading Civ 5 now.

 

Small price to pay for a completely free game.

ah damn, ok gonna wait then. Same on this end. Hope I get Civ5, would love to play it!
