Just fixed the sound but still no apps...........I click on the mail tile it spins and goes back to the start menu. Same with the store app.

seriously none of my start menu apps work...............not even store, so I can't update anything..heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeelp

I also prefer windows back up but it keeps changing the drive to backup to..................how do I make my choice stick??

Try going to pc settings in metro, and refresh the pc and/or reinstall Windows

I had sound initially, then it went out for some apps and other apps froze. A reboot seems to have fixed most things, I think. Even now though apps just keep freezing up. That never happened before. I did an in place upgrade which should have gone off without a hitch as that is how they intended most to upgrade.

Well.....I can't refresh because I'm "missing files", can't reinstall win 8 because it was the upgrade from win 7.....none of my backups work.....anyone got a clue cuz I don't

You need to at least have a .iso image from Windows 8.1.
Insert the disc you used to upgrade and/or have the .iso mounted using the Windows Mounting Tool (Built in in Windows 8+) and try again.

Try going to the modern screen and typing in "pc settings" and hit enter. It should be in there somewhere, probably under 'accounts'
Sounds like you`re one of the few (that i heard about relative) that`s had a bad upgrade experience Any good luck, i hope you get it sorted. Also with regards the Store, you don`t have a third party Firewall installed do you?

re:sound issue had to install 13.9 drivers .... by modern screen you mean start menu? cuz all I get is pc settings and there is nothing under accounts.
