Batman: AA & AC - GFWL removed

Recommended Posts

Dear Batman Arkham Fans - Microsoft has begun the process of closing down Windows Live services over the next year. To make sure there is no interrupted service, we will be moving the game to Steam for verification and update services for both Batman Arkham Asylum GOTY and Batman Arkham City GOTY.

If you purchased either of the games on Steam all you have to do is let Steam download the latest patch and you will be fine.

If you purchased the games somewhere else you will need to enter the code in Steam. (You can find steps to do this on the bottom of this.

Unfortunately, you will not be able to continue playing from your current save. You will need to start a new game.

Going forward you do not have to worry about where you stored that disc. If you switch computers or go to a friend?s house you simply need to download Steam, log into your account, then go to the library and select to install your game.

The following link can be used to learn more about Steam and to download Steam:

To enter your CD Key in Steam please do the following:

1. Click ADD A GAME....

2. Select Activate a Product on Steam..

3. Click Next.

4. Click I Agree.

5. Enter your CD Key and select next once the game finishes downloading you will be able to play the game.

I just noticed the respective GotY editions popped up in my Steam library. Hmm, I hope they have some form of progress transferral.

Nope. Upon loading the game, all my saves were cleared.

Your saves are not cleared they are just part of GFWL which are usually encrypted and tied to your profile.

I think we can just be thankful they bothered to get rid of GFWL and convert it to Steamworks.

Unfortunately you can't copy and paste to the new save folder. The game just crashes.

I got GOTY editions of both games now too!

It always annoyed me that it wouldn't let me buy Harley's Revenge separately.

I bet Valve are offering devs some deal or tools that makes the conversion process painless.

Yeah, read about this today before buying both of them. Really good news indeed! :)

I had bought both as soon as they released but unfortunately lost the keys! So I had to buy them again. :(

Eeek, that's a big **** up.

It's not a ###### up.  Your save game is tied to your gfwl account.  Since you won't be logging into your gfwl account the game won't be accessing the same save files.  This would be an expected side effect of this kind of transition, but it's a lot better than being tied gfwl.  At least now we won't have to worry about losing our save games going forward.  I really hope Capcom does this for their games, too, and preferably soon.  Right now I can't even play Super Street Fighter IV due to gfwl problems.

Someone posted on steam community a way to move your save file to steamworks with some hex editing. I don't have the link anymore though.

I tried adding my GFWL key in steam and got "Invalid Product Code", hopefully they're still working out the kinks and it'll work eventually.

Is this the thread in question?

I had a problem with my key. I bought Arkham Asylum through Gamersgate.

I had to use the activation code instead to activate it on Steam. Gamersgate have now changed their instructions say the activation code is for Steam.
