Apologies in advance if I'm bleh, but my head is a bit foggy from illness/tiredness. Windows 8.1 upgrade went well and I'm impressed so far. However, something is messed up with the scrolling/smooth scroll. I'm really not sure which to be honest as it is varying quite wildly depending what I'm using it in.
My mouse is a Logitech M705. Has one of those free-wheeling wheels that is very useful for coding, etc so I never have it "notched" on. If I enable the notching then the behaviour remains, it just makes more sense (but is horrible to use). Setpoint 6.61.15 / Driver 5.60.73. Apparently no driver updates available.
With smooth scrolling on, IE11 is lumpy. Not smooth scrolling off lumpy, but mouse wheel with notches but still slightly smoothed lump. Tuning the lines scrolled to 1 makes it smoother, but only because the lump is smaller. Turned off smooth scrolling makes IE11 function smoothly with the wheel. Before the upgrade, IE10 wasn't lumpy at all.
With smooth scrolling off, the start screen becomes jittery when scrolling. In all honesty, this and apps is the only reason I had smooth scrolling on in Windows 8 (always had it off in Windows 7). On the desktop the free wheel has probably always worked better when smooth scrolling is off.
Irrespective of the smooth scrolling setting, apps behave differently. Weather goes slow/fast depending on the line setting. The News app hates mouse wheels full stop - delayed response regardless of smooth scrolling/notching on or off, and with any line setting other than 1 line it skips through 2-3 pages at a time (with it set to 1 it is still very sensitive and doesn't even match up with the notches on the wheel when that is enabled). So for example if I set it up for News to be usable, Weather becomes so slow it is painful.
Office 2010, Wordpad, Notepad, etc seem unaffected and behave as it would under Windows 7/8.0. Would presume all desktop apps bar lumpy-IE11 are fine actually.
Ideas on what I can try changing to get the scrolling smooth and lump/notch free in *everything*? All I want is consistent, smooth scrolling across everything, is it really too much to ask?
Also, copy/paste doesn't want to work in this editor anymore. *sigh* IE11 gives some ancient 95 era message about allowing copy/paste then it still doesn't work. Maybe IE10 did it too? Only began using IE as my main browser last week, although it is slowly making me regret that choice. Want to stick with it for the Modern version and simplicity.
