First Official AMD Radeon R9 290X Benchmarks

Recommended Posts

We're in the process of benchmarking AMD's upcoming Radeon R9 290X flagship. But before the embargo expires, the company gave us the go-ahead to publish a couple of numbers from tests we've already run.

We?re cranking away in the lab, benchmarking AMD?s Radeon R9 290X graphics card. Typically, that means you wouldn?t hear a peep from me until launch day.

Presumably as a counter to Nvidia?s press event, which is currently happening in Montreal, however, the company is giving me the go-ahead to publish a couple of my results a bit early.

AMD is back in the game! Nice!  I like their "leaked" pricepoint too

Edited to reflect just guestimated/leaked price points for all 2xx series range cards.

just leaked EU price estimates from 95 up to 700 bucks depending on card range..

but even the specs on low end cards if they meet the prior 7xxx series pricing is a steal at the price/performance value

Seems interesting that they chose 2 AMD-optimized games to show benchmarks of, and nothing else.  I suspect that benchmark scores might be all over the board for it when released.  We'll see.

I also didn't see anything about price point, but it'll probably be something like $600 to undercut the 780 by a little bit.  We'll have to see more benchmarks to determine if it's worth it or not.

I'm always a little suspicious of benchamarks where you can only show certain titles, but with the 2 titles shows it does show an improvement and if its cheaper like they say then they did good. Just want to see a range of benchmarks already, i get a little tired of all this c**k teasing lol
