Windows 8.1 WiFi Connectivity problems

Recommended Posts

Anyone with  WiFi Problems after 8.1 Upgrade?

- I had already tried before the Windows 8.1 from MSN , ut got huge connectivity problems in WiFi - Intel Advanced n-6235, so i waited for the GA and expected to see some improvement/fix on this, apparently there is none.

- Issues so far (IE11 looses connectivity frequently, and so programs that use IE definitions)

- This issues does not apply to Firefox browsing.

- When i connect to my router in the right bar says "The Connection is taking longer than ususal...", but in the bar says that  i am connected ok, after some time in the right bar says "Limited Connectivity", yet in connection propertyes says it's all ok.

- Some pages open fast sometimes is slower

- Many Pages looses connectivity.

- It seems that by forcing Intel to always be in g mode and disabling "n" mode makes a little diference, but still there are issues.

- I have tried with a USB SMC wireless g pen but the issues remain

-Connecting through ethernet looks ok

Anyone else with the same problem?

- Another annoying issue is that (with Windows 8 i had 1920x1080 native resolution with 100%), after update it set all to 1920x1080 125% and IE is always by default at 125% (CRTL+0).

I upgraded a brand new windows 8.0 hp laptop today in my shop to windows 8.1 just to try it out and I was very surprised that the wireless ,ethernet and bluetooth drivers all failed to install... plus no support from the hp site (not surprised about that bit) ... also the laptop didn't recognise the product key so, so much for that, i put it back the way it was ha

At least some connectivity issue was resolved with Intel drivers. I had connectivity problems with the Intel 2230N card. The recent Intel Wireless drivers seem to have solved the problem for me. I haven't had any dropped connection issue since installing the 15.10.3.2 driver on Windows 8.0.

same thing to me even after  the windows update rollup package installed. Did update the drivers (intel wifi n-105 to version 16).

The notification about "unusual time to connect" hasn't changed. Hope they fix it soon

In Windows 8 everything was working ok!! What i am talking about is Windows 8.1!

I have tried with the Windows 8 drivers (wich actually were kept ater the upgrade) but still the connection problems persist, now i have the default Microsoft drivers, has the last driver from intel for Windows 8.1 is beta.

Intel of course should already have drivers, but still the driver supplied in place should work!, and as i have described i tried with a diferente card (USB PEN) and still this issues reamis, wich leds me to OS problema not drivers problema!

you may need to update the drivers. example: my realtek HD audio drivers needed a driver update to work. no biggy.

Don't be put off by this. I'd guess most vendors have drivers already "at the ready" to get you up to speed.

Sporadic but recurring connection dropouts on Intel wireless adapters

Updated September 11, 2013 (Product list edited October 2):

The new software is now available for these adapters with Windows 8*:

?Intel? Centrino? Wireless-N 2230

?Intel? Centrino? Ultimate-N 6300

?Intel? Centrino? Advanced-N 6205

?Intel? Centrino? Advanced-N 6235

?Intel? Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260

?Intel? Dual Band Wireless-N 7260

?Intel? Wireless-N 7260

You can download it from https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?DwnldID=23169.

We are sorry for the upset and inconvenience this has caused. We appreciate your patience and understanding while we have been working to create a solution for the connection issues.

Intel is aware of end-user reports of connection instability (connection drops, applications hang, etc.) with certain wireless adapters using 15.x software with Windows 8 operating system. A software release is planned to support additional wireless adapters. This release is expected by the end of Q4.

There was even a post on it on Neowin:

In Windows 8 you were probably using the built in Microsoft one which works just fine I hear. It's the Intel drivers that are a pain in the ass.

This started August 2012 and Intel still hasn't fixed it yet!!!

I had similar issues with N 2230 on Win 8 64 bit, running Intel driver version 15.x

Upgrading to 16.x resolved the issue with Win 8, and no issues since 8.1 update earlier today so far.

Agreed. And I confirm with the AC 7260 the 8.1 driver from Windows update is crap as well. It is an Intel driver. The older drivers 16.0.5 work best but crap out over short period of time. This is an Intel problem. They cannot write good Wifi drivers. Unfortunately for me, the 7260 is the only half height mini-pcie 802.11ac card around. :/  ;<

Edit: I couldn't even save this post, I had to install a USB 802.11ac. The Intel WiFi product is basically unusable in 8.1. Life is good again, ditch the Intel Wifi and it's shoddy drivers if you can.

yep, i had notebook with intel. it would crap out few times a day. was pretty annoying. only fix was to disable N mode. swapped the card to a different chipset, and that one works wonders.

But the stranger thing is that i do have connectivity ok, because i can download and browse very well with Firefox.

- I have already tried with latest intel E?Windows 8.1 driver and the Microsoft suppplied one (the resukts are the same)

- In Windows 8  i didn?t had this problems

- For me this is a TCP/IP layer connectivity problema in Windows 8.1, i say this because the lost connectivity is replicated in all sevices/apps/programs that use directtly the IE settings connection

For exemple Microsoft Outlook somtimes connects others dont.

Windows Store sometimes opens others dont because i can?t connect.

So like i have already said if this is a driver problema, so is the Integrations in Windows 8.1.

I have tried already with another router (another brand) and the exact same problem arrises.

So this is something that i think should be told to Microsoft investigate....

Forgive me if I missed this in your OP, but did you clean install or upgrade? I upgraded and attributed it to that. I usually never do but I'm too busy right now and 8 has been quite stable. I thought it was IE, my router, drivers, until I just put in a USB ac adapter and all was and is good. If you have another adapter to try and all works well, then it's a driver issue.

FWIW, with the Intel drivers, things worked for a while then didn't. And it would cause the apps (IE, uTorrent, NFL Fantasy Football, etc.) to become unresponsive and often I'd have to kill the task. Those Intel drivers are real bad and have been for a long time. For those that it works for, they're lucky. But from 11n-11ac, Intel just doesn't know what they're doing.

I actually have Upgraded as i do have a lot of stuff, but i have already tried before with MSDN RTM release and back then the problema was the same.

You have missed my answers in this post, i have actually tried before with a USB Wireless pen SMC 2.4Ghz 54Mbps, i even tried a diferente Router SMC Barricade 54G (older) also and the results are exactly the same.

Why i dont think this is a driver isssue?

1st - Like i said in Firefox i dont have such problems

2nd - Skype is working OK

3rd - Even with a Virtual Machine i can get internet without problems

Things i think are related to OS:

Ex: Assume that i am connecting for the first time to a router Wireless

When i connect the right bar says "Cheking Network Requirements", but in milliseconds i actually have the taskbar icon with full bars connected without any warning and if i open Google page for example it opens ok.

Then after some time checking again the right bar says "The Connection is Limited" and still in the taskbar there is nothing that appears to be warning. All full bars in wireless connection icon.

So the problems start  appearing randomly some pages opens others dont, but when dont if i copy paste the URL to Firefox it opens OK!!!!

Ah! and Skype never ever disconnects in the process..

So something very, very strange is happening here!

I would say clean install except for item 3, Hyper-V machine works fine. Even so, I would say it is a conflict on the host or an app running on the host and a clean install would most likely resolve.

One of my friends told me that he solved the issue by changing the values of dns on the ipv4 options, he just added the DNS from his ISP and he told me that it works like a charm, i aint gonna try because i just rollback to win 8 before my friend told me that he found a fix, i told on the last post that i've changed the adapter and it worked but nope... 5 mins later the problem was back... maybe you guys should try and see whats going on

yup...identical problem...started with the preview...i hoped the full release would fix it...i've tried all the solutions...settings...drivers...different browsers...a separte usb adapter...noluck

i'm on a dell xps13 with a intel n6230 but the card is not the problem

it's something in 8.1

it starts ok then after a few minutes starts to slow down...gets stuck then clogs up completely...reboot fixes for a few minutes then it gets worse.

wtf microsoft...get on this

I am gonna try that,

After sooo many time defaukting to factory windows 8 on My Vaio, the upgrading with the bare minimum installed (removed almost all crap from OEM Windows 8)

then i actually just for trying i  formated and installed all from zero!!

Guess what the problems persist, diferente routers etc..., this is something ver very wrong with Windows 8.1 TCP Layer

Now i am the PC restored and 8.1 again, the only thing that i really see diferent from the initial post, is taht now i dont see anymore that connecting and then "limited" connection, now it appears ok, but after some time IE refuses to open some pages, while Firefox opens them ok. Still i can see that speed isn?t actually that good.

Tried also disabling all services and startup except microsoft ones, and the problem is the same.

I dont think this is a problem for only a few, what i think is that most people did?t realised yet...

We should start a thread in Microsoft suppot forums to see if anyone with experience starts to rollout some fix for this damn thing.....
