Ten facts you don't know about the JFK assassination

Recommended Posts

November 22, 2013 marks the 50th anniversary of the assassination of President John F. Kennedy, one of the most momentous and scrutinized moments in American history. Even half a century later, questions persist: Who really shot Kennedy? Was there a conspiracy to kill the president? Why are there still so many loose ends and secrets?

With the benefit of both distance and technology, we know far more about the events that fateful day in Dallas than Americans did at the time. But facts rarely get in the way of a good story, and the JFK assassination is a story tailor-made for a novelist.

Leave it to a novelist, then, to delve into the truth behind the myth. Brad Meltzer, New York Times bestselling author and host of the History Channel series ?Decoded,? focuses on the Kennedy assassination as part of his new book ?History Decoded: The 10 Greatest Conspiracies of All Time.?

?We analyzed everything we could find, from the facts, to the myths that keep getting repeated,? Meltzer says. ?We so want to believe there's a conspiracy. Why? Because we don?t want to believe that our government could be jackknifed by a high school dropout.?

But sometimes the facts don?t line up with the myth. Here, Meltzer shares with Yahoo ten aspects of the JFK assassination most Americans may not know, whether because they?re little-known facts or because the myth is a better story.

To be honest, you could have Obama himself (or some other supposed high ranking official) stand in front of the worlds media and say - "oh yeah JFK was killed by a 2nd gunman and Oswald was the patsy", produce a load of evidence and people still wouldn't believe it.

The same with lots of other conspiracy theories as well - 9/11, 7/7, etc... pick your poison the result would be the same.

I am of the opinion that a lot of people who oppose conspiracy theories don't want them to be true. I say this because they class themselves as "normal", whatever the hell that means, and those people who are conspiracy theorists or "truthers" etc.. are weird, crazy crackpots and so if they are correct and the "normals" are wrong its a ego thing - they cant accept that people they have denigrated their whole life would be correct.

8. Oliver Stone?s "JFK" damaged history. ?Oliver Stone is a great filmmaker,? Meltzer says. ?But his film 'JFK' did a great disservice to history by mixing fact and fiction. For the 20 million people that saw it in theaters, and the millions who have seen it afterward, that became the official record of the assassination.? Meltzer notes that several characters in the movie were created for the purposes of storytelling and had no relation whatsoever to real events.

This is a good point, a lot of people think that movie is a documentary.

Ugh.. don't remind me about those 9/11 conspiracies.. the precursor to the birther movement and other wingnut ######.. -_-

I have evidence that Hitler faked his death at the end of WW2, shaved off his moustache to blend in after being smuggled into America.  Then in 1963, he was the 2nd sniper who definitely killed JFK.

I immediately, without question, believe every word of this and from this point forward will dismiss anyone who doesn't believe it as being closed-minded.

I have pictures of Hitler eating burgers at McDonalds in Washington, just before JFK was assassinated.

1) Combine Evidence

2) Write a book

3) ?

4) PROFIT!

It's been proven that agents of the CIA killed JFK.

Other branches and the Dallas police helped in the cover-up.

Read Mark Lane's books.

"Proven" huh? Really? Alright, present the evidence and present the testimonies accepting said evidence as factual.

The fact that this is in the It's a Conspiracy! forum says it all, I think.

Read the article, I have a feeling you didn't. the "facts" in the article is actually counter against the many idiotic conspiracy theories.

How about getting off your duff, and read Mark Lane's books.

There was a Florida civil trial in court over this years ago --- with witness testimony. ;)

Then you can decide for yourself.

Never heard of the guy and have no intentions of buying books full of fairy tales unless I seem some proof beforehand.

You're making claims. Back them up or shush.

^ I make no claims -- Mark Lane and other witnesses tell their story.

Just because you have not heard of something, does not mean it does not exist.

You won't find proof of anything sitting on your butt at your computer.

Don't expect proof to come knock on your door -- don't be lazy.

You can always borrow the books.

I assume that England still has libraries and that you can read.

Stating "it's been proven CIA agents killed JFK" is stating a claim. And telling others to go read a book by blah blah does not prove your claim.

You DO realize the eye witness accounts are the weakest form of proof, right?

If a car accident occurs in the middle of a busy intersection with dozens of witnesses, the police will get a dozen variations of what happened.  Several won't even get the colors of the cars correct.

We saw the same during 9/11.  People interviewed running from the scene claimed a bomb went off.  Conspiracy nuts took this as "fact" because some idiot made an assumption and expressed his opinion as though it was a fact.

Burden of proof is on you, Hum. YOU made the claim that JFK was assassinated by the CIA.  Attempting to divert the issue isn't going to work.

Prove it or shut it.

I doubt that anyone alive has definite proof. Anyone that truly knows the truth is dead by now.
