Are you gonna buy the new PS4? why?

Recommended Posts

I'm not intended to start a flame war, but considering this time the competition is almost the same (hardware wise speaking), why are you people gonna buy the new PS4? Maybe i'm talking from the perspective of a new PS3 Owner some of you know i'm and i not know all the advantages, but right now i'm in the middle of a desicion here about buying a new next gen console and it seems obvious for a owner of a PS3  buy the PS4. But, is that obvious?

Thanks for any word of advice.

KillZone Shadowfall :p

I personally, because I've only had playstations since sega, and in all honesty, I'm not interested in having a centralised media center in my games console, the Xbox One is far better at this, if that is something you need.

I like the exclusives, they were more my cup of tea.

And I've already committed to a ps4.

I wouldn't call myself in either camp to be honest. I own all 3 consoles - last gen I bought the Xbox 360 at launch, and waited for the PS3 to drop a bit. I'm doing it the other way this gen. I don't want a camera. Nor do I want to pay for one I don't want to use. And I generally prefer the PS exclusives - Killzone, Infamous, etc.

I think the basis for anyone's decision should be based on games - look at whats coming out, look at what did come out for PS3 and Xbox360 and see if either one appealed to you.

Games like Uncharted, infamous etc are always going to be repeated at some time for PS3, just like Halo and Gears on Xbox. Obviously where things aren't announced its a risk but I think there will be more.

Yeah, at the bottom of the well of a discussion should be picking the console with the games you want.

So if you buy a ps4, you must prefer the games coming out for it.

Personally, I want one thanks to the game lineup.  Everything else about the console that I like is just icing on the cake.

The only issue is what to get at launch.  I'm debating it up to the last minute since I will not buy two consoles at launch, that's just a huge waste of money imo.

I'm a multiplatform owner, so whatever I get now, it wont be my only console for long.  So this whole console war bs is beyond me.

Yes, I am getting a PS4.  I have it pre-ordered, and it should ship at launch.

Reasons for buying PS4 over the One

1) I owned a PS2, PS3
2) I never owned an Xbox, or 360
3) Never had an issue with any sony product
4) Don't have a use for or want or need the Kinect
5) 100$ is a big difference, especially with point 4
6) The game line up on PS4 is more enticing to me than the One
7) I don't use voice commands, nor do I need something that controls my TV.
8) I don't like the metro interface
9) I don't want to have to pay to access things I should get for free
10) I don't like how MS announced the One or all the reversals they have done
11) I don't like how MS emphasized the Media features
12) The PS4 in my eyes has the power to outlast the One
13) I prefer the dualshock controller over the xbox controller

I bought my first console (Xbox 360) less than 2 years ago, only because I could get it with the Kinect for $200.  I also expect to wait until the One goes for that price before getting it.  In other words, I can wait for a few years; my life doesn't revolve around having the latest and greatest games the minute they come out (I'm looking at you, GTAV), and waiting for that long means you can get a shitload of games for dirt-cheap.

After the PSN fiasco, rootkits, the removal of features, customer information leaking out repeatedly and more, I've been boycotting every Sony product for at least a decade--whether it's consoles, DVD/BluRay players, TVs, what have you.

It seems to be very difficult for some to refrain from making this a VS thread lol

For some though they are buying the PS4 instead of the One and theirs reasons are why they are getting the PS4.  So while it is not a PS4 vs One thread, it is a PS4 purchase thread, and when it comes down to it, most people will buy one or the other.  Their reasonings for buying the PS4 in this case, are due to faults with the One.

I'm considering it. And by considering it I mean I have a day one preorder in, but I may cancel it still. I can't see too many reasons to go for the extra $100 of the X1, plus I've always been an Xbox guy and never gotten to play the PS exclusive games. Killzone like mentioned, Uncharted, etc. Maybe a little GT, though I think Forza is superior in a lot of ways, GT certainly isn't lacking and would be fun to play. I'm not much for the Kinect (I like other people to have Kinect so I can play it a couple of times a year ) I think it'd be an interesting change up and the X1 doesn't thrill me as much as the Xbox and 360 did. That and the PS controller is actually starting to look halfway usable for once.

The other option is to buy a couple of video cards for the monster PC I have planned. But I've been so out of the PC gaming world for so long that I don't even know if they have games I'd really want. I don't game enough to make these tough decisions.

If I was buying a console based on the fact that I didn't like the other console, I would rethink my buying plans completely, maybe just use a pc. Its like 'Hey, the X1 sucks, so I think I'll buy a ps4'

Think of it this way:

Why not lay out what you like about the PS4 and not what you don't like about the XB1?  Why is that bad or wrong?

Personally, I have a list of reasons why I want a ps4 and they don't have anything to do with what MS is doing with the X1.  The ps4 can stand on its own without the comparison.  I'm not saying don't compare them, but does that have to happen in every thread?  X1 threads go to heck because people want to argue for the ps4 and ps4 threads go to heck because people want to argue for the X1.

I agree, but what's that in reference to?  I'm hoping you don't mean online play since you'll need to pay for PS Plus to play PS4 online.

Not that that's really a bad thing since PS Plus is excellent.

Personally I'm getting both consoles and have both preordered and guaranteed for launch.  Xbox One has more games that appeal to me at launch but I know both will have their share of great games so I'm just getting both so I don't miss out.

PS4 eventually, because I grew up playing PlayStation from the PS1 to the PS3.

He is talking about things like Netflix.

I don't know if that has been confirmed as requiring Gold on the X1 yet, but since it was that way for the 360, it could be again.

I'm getting a One because of its media capabilities to be used as a streaming box, also for when all the family kids come over to play on.

PC is where it's at for the real games.

At launch, no.  I have my xbox one preordered and I figure I'll spend some time at launch playing that and then eventually pick up a PS4 when a game I need to play (Uncharted) comes out.  My gametime is limited at the moment (2 young kids) so shelling out the $900 within 2 weeks is unnecessary.

It's not so much that.. as:  "I want to get a new console, both are reasonably specc'd, lots of games are going to be cross platform, what are justifications for buying one over the other."

Like you could say: "I want good graphics"  Well.. both have good graphics.  "I want Bluray"  well.. both have blu ray.  However it is easy to list things about the other that you don't like, versus what you do like.

I prefer the PS4 controller -> Means I don't like the one controller,

I prefer the PS4 interface -> Means I don't like metro,

I prefer the PS4 lineup -> Means the one's games don't interest me.

I prefer the PS4 price -> Means 100$ extra bugs me about the one.

Then comes in how the 100$ is for Kinect, which I won't use (won't get ps eye either)

With Kinect comes the focus on voice recognition:  Which again I won't use

With voice recognition comes a bunch of media based features which I don't want

I get a lot of extra stuff I don't want and will never use, with the One and there are a lot of other aspects I don't like.

See, using a comparison I can give better justification, and can give more reasons as to why I went the way I did.

I agree, however when it comes down to it.. the PS4 and One are the ones to compare.  They are the big names, they are coming at the same time, and they are the fuel for this round of Consoles.

I could compare to the Wii U but.. that isn't a valid comparison.

I mean things like Netflix, and various other services offered for free on Playstation that aren't free on Xbox.  Granted I am going to buy PSN+ and such for the PS4.. however I don't know if I will keep PSN+ so to lose the ability to watch netflix on it due to not having that subscription (though I still pay netflix) would be annoying.

I'm getting one mainly because i was disappointed with the 360.

I owned a NES and was totally satisfied.

I owned a SNES and was totally satisfied.

I owned a Playstation and was totally satisfied.

I owned an XBox and was totally satisfied.

Then i went for the 360 and it is actually the first console i owned and disliked. I mostly never use it. For one none of the consoles listed above broke on me. I actually had 2 defective XBox 360 (RRoD and HDMI port). Also i was kinda disappointed with the lineup. I have a good PC and most of the titles avalaible on 360 were also avalaible on PC. Steam is getting better and better and it is bringing me back to PC gaming. Journey looked like a great game. This is the type of games i want to play on consoles not CoD 17 or generic Ubisoft title number 16. XBox Live was great on the XBox cause back then online gaming on Nintendo ans Sony side sucked balls. Now that PSN+ is better the advantage of XBox Live is not as great as it used to be. I'm kinda done with "this feature is not avalaible in Canada" part of XBox Live. I don't think it's gonna be better on Sony side but i'm willing to at least give them a chance with the free monthly games rental at least i'll have something for my money. XBox Live right now in canada is a glorified friend list with a matchmaking system for 60$ a year. Totally not worth it. I know MS plans to add dedicated servers, teh cloud and free games but it's too tale for me my decision is taken i'll give Sony a chance next gen and hope the PS4 has quirky japanese games like the PS3 had. That's what i'm looking for ultimately i could not care less about CoD, Madden or Tom Clancy.

[edit]

Sorry if it looks like an XBox rant more than a list of reasons why i plan to get a PS4 but the truth is i did not own a PS2 and PS3. I used a fiend's PS2 here and there but i actually never used a PS3. So it's hard for me to list features i like about the PS4 since i've not been following sony side for a while now. But here's an attempt to a list of the reasons why i did not buy a PS3 and why i plan to buy a PS4.

1. I hated the Dual Shock when i had a PS. The PS3 Dual Shock looked even worse. I like the changes made to the PS4 controller and i think those changes will make the controller enjoyable for me.

2. PSN+ is getting better and i'm getting tired of online gaming anyway. At 37 yo with a gf and a kid i just don't have the will, time and skills anymore to compete online.

3. I have a good PC and i really love Steam. I found myself getting back to PC gaming lately and i play most multiplatform titles on PC these days. My PC is in a work room and it's easier to have a bit of peace there.

4. I miss the quirky japanese titles and i can't play them on PC. I believe i have more chances to get to play some of them on the PS4.

5. I believe more in the future of Smart TV than Smart Console. I don't want to pay 100$ for features i wont use and/or not avalaible in canada anyway.

That's it sorry for the rant of the original post.

I'll be getting a PS4 as an upgrade from my XBox 360 sometime next year.  Primary reason for me is I'm tired of paying $60/year to play online and watch Amazon Prime Instant Watch.

I'm actually on my 4th XBox 360s since 2005.  First one RRoD on me, MS repaired as it was under warranty.  Second one the video went out and it was out-of-warranty so I had to buy a new one.  That new one lasted until about the beginning of this year, and then the optical drive stopped working.  So now I'm on my fourth XBox 360.  Not too happy about how many consoles I've gone through, but it isn't my primary reason for switching to Sony next year.

Last generation I bought both, but this generation I am not so sure. The bluray difference last generation made the PS4 an easy decision but this generation it really has no advantages and is missing the TV Pass-through and Kinect features. Maybe once they have a great game I will cave in but as of now, I am waiting.

i'm getting a ps4 (not at launch but at some point) for a few reasons

1. the kinect has 0 appeal to me

2. the only exclusive on Xbox that i care about is the Halo series and that's honestly not enough to sway me

3. i personally prefer to PS controller over the Xbox (in the current gen. and i'm betting the same will be true for me in this new gen)

i've been a PC gamer this gen (don't own a 360 or PS3). so if i do get a console this next gen I'm right now leaning towards to PS4

will be at least 6 months after release before i make a solid decision though (i've only ever bought hand-helds at/near lauch)
