What An Xbox One Achievement Looks Like

original.jpg

We knew that the way achievements work has changed...but did you know that they've also changed in terms of how they look?

Here's what getting an achievement on the Xbox One looks like in motion; GIF courtesy of Gearnuke.

Microsoft has confirmed to Kotaku that these are in fact the new achievements.

Here's some slightly-obscured footage that shows what getting an achievement on the Xbox One looks and sounds like. It seems as if, while the visuals have changed a bit, the achievement unlocked sound is too iconic to change. The achievement happens around the 2:50 mark.

Looks good, nice how you can hold to get more info if you want it.

You can do that now, too.  When the achievement pops up just hit the Xbox button.

Do people still care about achievements? It feels like people have become indifferent about their gamerscore these days.

I do, to an extent, if it's something that forces you to do multiplayer for example in a game I play just for it's SP then I don't mind.  But I do try to get as many as I can in my play through.

I don't really care about achievements, but that will change if more devs take advantage of the fact that you can offer in game rewards for achievements. That kind of incentive would get keep me interested in getting those achievements.

Yeah, it depends on the achievement.  If they expect me to kill myself or play through the game a second time, then I have no interest.  lol  But I do try to get what I can...

Yes. Trophies just aren't the same. MS got this right. They only suck in games like Pinball FX2, some are ridiculously hard/time consuming to get. If you have to completely master the table to get say, 3 total achievements, they lose their appeal, lol.

They got the sound right too, hopefully that hasn't changed. Like the old Pinball "knock". You know what that sound means.

If MS dumped achievements everyone would go mental.

Couldn't they have made it smaller and off in a corner. Game devs put enough clutter on the screen in most games these days as it is.

Which also tends to be in the corner...  I think the lower center is less likely to cover something that you need to see (At least for the short period where the achievement notification is being displayed...

I agree, at least with the 360 devs had the option of where to have them show up, I've seen some do it in the lower center and others in the top right corner.   It depends on the game and where the empty space is in the games UI/HUD.

If they had that option in the 360 I don't see why it would be any different on the One.  I guess most devs just kept it at the bottom.

Is it just me or does the G for the gamer score stand out a little too much?

In all honesty I'm not a fan of this animation, it looks a little half arsed and too flat for me.

It would  be good if they gave you an option to set the transparency. Many times a message has covered something I wanted to read while playing like subtitled cut scenes etc...

Or maybe just make the noise but have no on screen message.

Something Else Cool About The Xbox One's New Achievements

original.jpg

Remember, the Xbox One's new achievement display does more than just look fresher. It also lets multiple people earn separate achievements from within the same game, even logged onto the same console, and display that as its own colour-coded pop-up.

Here's an example, taken from around the 11:15 mark in this video.

original.gif

You'll notice at the start it tells everyone just who unlocked the achievement, both to save on confusion and, I guess, allow for a little gloating as well.

The colours will change too; while this one is a greeney...bluey...thing, Xbox VP Marc Whitten says that each player's unlock will be in their "chosen color".
It's not going to change the face of the planet, but hey, it's still kinda neat!

Not me..

I don't care.

Unless it is about real money... I would play to win some cash.

you might not care, but you are one out of millions...it would literally kill the Xbox brand..

No.. I like to play Xbox games.... I have about 60 games for it.

Some people play the tournament that can win the cash. I want cash but I am not good at the games with others who are the better than me.

Don't think that I hate Xbox brand and I am PS fan.. I don't have playstation around here.

Only Xbox... hopefully, I get Xbox One so I can get FM5... unless they plan to release for Xbox 360.. if so, I don't need to switch for Xbox One.

I like achievements; they offer a lot more challenge than just finishing the game. It invites for extra exploration and skills etc. Really great.

I don't care achievements themselves, I just like hearing that noise when one pops up :p There's something oddly satisfying about it.

We've all been conditioned to enjoy that sound.
