+longgonebn Subscriber² Posted October 19, 2013 Subscriber² Share Posted October 19, 2013 I have been having some issues with my PSU, over the past few months, I have switched 4 PSUs, all have had a coil whine (very bad) and other issues, loud fans etc. I ended up on the Seasonic Platinium 760w, but it has the same issue. So now I want to replace it (while I wait for RMA) with the best option available. I want the following 750W (700 minimum) Quiet Fans (like the new RM series, though they are 180mm) 160mm max (I have a Bitfenix Phenom mITX) Fully Modular I am worried no matter what I get I will have the same issue, because 3 in a row is kinda weird, but my system seems to be fine. Dark-Heart Posted October 19, 2013 Share Posted October 19, 2013 Hi there try to avoid Seasonic and Corsair, as I've seen lots of reports from other forums about coil wine etc... Really annoying as I used to have a Corsair PSU... So recently changed It for a new one, and got the coil wine so I RMA'd it and changed it for a Thermaltake. I really need/want fully modular, so the Thermaltakes won't do. So I am willing to try another Corsair, or whatever, but obviously, it is weird that I have had this much issue. I have had similar problems with certain makes of graphics cards as well, with wine I ended up not using that make. Inwin, OCZ, EVGA, Zalman, and Silverstone make some full modular PSUs. lars77 Posted October 19, 2013 Share Posted October 19, 2013 That's a bit weird, is the machine running a bit on the hot side and/or your desktop is running on high power load constantly? Or the PSUs you're getting not very efficient? With most power-efficient PSU the fans hardly start up unless they're under high load or there's some sort of thermal issue. Try to aim for something 80 Plus Platinum certified if possible. If it matters, I've never really heard the Corsair AX860i in my system, seems pretty quiet. +PeterUK MVC Posted October 20, 2013 MVC Share Posted October 20, 2013 Don't really see why you need a fully modular PSU since your going to use the 24 pin, 8pin and two 6+2 pins connections that are hard wired in hybrid modular PSU and the rest are modular.
