HighwayGlider
Hello people, Short story: A university kid gave me his laptop to re-install everything, I'm not an expert, but I can manage to re-install everything provided I have all required media and a fully working PC/laptop :p . Tried doing it yesterday night but I noticed that the DVD drive is not working on the laptop and the laptop cannot boot from USB devices. Is there anyway I can install windows 7 on the laptop? The guy genuinely needs that laptop for his autocad stuff. Thanks.

Nick H. Supervisor Posted October 21, 2013 Supervisor Share Posted October 21, 2013 Can you not remove the HDD and put it in to a laptop/computer with working DVD/USB drives?
+Frank B. Subscriber² Posted October 21, 2013 Subscriber² Share Posted October 21, 2013 Can you not remove the HDD and put it in to a laptop/computer with working DVD/USB drives? Wouldn't that cause a headache with drivers etc unless the laptop is identical with the student's?
Eric Veteran Posted October 21, 2013 Veteran Share Posted October 21, 2013 You may be able to resize the main partition and create a new one to copy the install files onto via network. You can blow away the partition and resize the main one again afterward.
Brandon H Supervisor Posted October 21, 2013 Supervisor Share Posted October 21, 2013 Wouldn't that cause a headache with drivers etc unless the laptop is identical with the student's? no, as long as you shut down the computer after the initial install. it doesn't install/set the main drivers till the first boot after install (aka the "getting things ready" portion)
