Eye-Fi

Does anyone here use an Eye-Fi card in their cameras?

A little back story: I went on holiday to the Carribean, and took about 400 pics on one card and 400 on another.  upon getting home, I find my pics gone and card corrupted.  I'll be damned if I ever lose my pics again.  Hence am looking for a cloud upload solution.

I will be buying a dSLR soon, and possibly an Eye-Fi card.  They seem to have stopped the one with GPS built-in but hey.

So my thought is: Take pics and when I get a WiFi signal (either in a bar, restaurant or tethered phone) allow the photos to upload.

Is this correct?

Thanks

I don't know about eye-fi, seems to dependent on having a wireless connection... what I normally do is, carry around my laptop and at the end of the day or two (when possible) I download them to the laptop, it's work, but it's a safe process of not losing your photos...

Future wise... if shooting RAW with a dSLR, youll end up with 10mb+ photos, which will be hell uploading from crappy internet connections.

The RAW issue is a valid point for sure!  Maybe if there's some instant backup device.

It's not only RAW mate, dSLR jpegs are around 6-8mb as well... My point for you is, always invest for the future...

As for instant back up, some android phones have USB OTG capabilities, that's always my plan B if I don't have a laptop, use my phone, download to phone, keep shooting... Eye-Fi I think is more a solution for "need that pic right at the moment" like the Queens baby or the Popes son...
