Games with Gold: Now an Ongoing Benefit for Xbox Live Gold Members on Xbox 36

Recommended Posts

At E3 2013, we launched Games with Gold as a limited-time program to thank our Xbox Live Gold members. Within that short period of time, we?ve seen an overwhelming response, with more than 120 million hours played with Games with Gold titles. Today, as a part of the ?Week of Xbox Live,? we?re excited to announce that we are making Games with Gold an ongoing benefit for Xbox Live Gold members on Xbox 360.

Whether they are blockbuster AAA or popular arcade titles, Games with Gold continues to offer a diverse mix of games with two free Xbox 360 titles a month ? yours to keep and at no additional cost. According to recent surveys, 97 percent of participating members have given their stamp of approval for Games with Gold, and we?re excited to continue bringing you great games every month as part of our ongoing commitment to providing great value on Xbox 360.

Don?t forget to download ?Halo 3,? called ?nothing short of epic? by IGN.com and available Oct. 16-31. Stay tuned to Xbox Wire and Major Nelson?s blog for new Games with Gold titles announced each month.

More details on the Games with Gold program are available here.

Baby steps, this is the reason competition is good. It really needs to expand to the Xbox One as well, it's a decent selling point for Sony to be saying they're offering you free games at the launch of your PS4 when you've already emptied your bank. Resogun is nothing short of awesome (yes I've played it).

It'd be good to see some games that aren't:

a). old (ACII)

or

b). already owned by everyone (Halo)

I would love if they took a similar approach to what Sony does and also offer XBLA games as well. I often find I discover great smaller games thanks to PS+, so would be great to do the same with this initiative.

I have little doubt this doesn't expand to Xbox One but next year once they have more content on it to be able to offer players. Probably January or February they'll make the announcement.

They might be attempting to keep the 360 brand alive by doing this. They've had a long time to add more value to the Gold sub, but have never bothered.

Great, GREAT new feature of Live.  I don't have room on my HDD for all of these, so when they go free, I "confirm" the free purchase, then cancel the download.  Now I can go back in the future and "Re-Download" when I want to play it.

Ummm they do, so far it's been one full game and one Xbla game each month.

They probably do that deliberately. The more games that are way old and already owned by the majority, the less it costs them in bandwidth.

Good on them for doing this.

I think this pretty much guarantees we will see this move to the X1.

The issues is just a lack of content that could be offered for free. Sony is getting around this by offering some smaller games, so maybe MS could do something similar until full retail games can be offered.

Now maybe we will see them start to improve the choices, getting games that are a bit more recent for one thing.

I did not read the whole thing, only clicked on the second link, and on that page they do they mention XBLA games or Arcade games, just XBox 360 games, so that is why I said what I said. Reading the entire quoted article I now see they do. Good on them.

While I haven't really gotten anything with this just yet, mostly due to rebuying physical copies of most of the offered games only a month or two before this started, its really good value for anyone who has recently picked up a 360 and is looking to play some games on the cheap.
